Once upon a time about 100 years ago, I went to the airport, and I logged onto a stupid free Wifi service called "AlwaysOn" or stomething stupid like that. Now EVERY flipping time I go to the airport my phone tries to re-connect to that same stupid wifi point, and of course I can't do anything until I turn off my wifi. I've told to forgot that wifi point, but it doesn't seem to want to forget it. You cannot imagine the drama... when trying to pick up or drop off people, and you can't get through to them or phone them or whatsapp them until you remember to turn off your stupid wifi because once upon a time you connected to that stupid wifi point from hell.... Why won't it forget that stupid wifi point????

Make your own hotspot called AlwaysOn with a password and join it,now your phone won't be able to join theirs

iPhone actually checks if there is internet before routing your traffic to a dead hotspot.

So yeah…it fixes this problem quite nicely.
He's getting caught on the captive portal, which iPhone would also redirect to normally unless you run a potato
Newer Android actually has a setting to disconnect from networks with no/limited internet access, perhaps apple will add it in 2045

Not surprising an Apple monkey would throw money at a problem to make it disappear though then flex at how they fixed it:thumbsdown:

This is a new phone... Google is remembering the network. I have previously forgotten it... every time I come to the airport...

If it's a Xiaomi , welcome to their **** decisions, to intentionally exfiltrate some of your information by automatically always connecting to any open hotspot it sees . Running into this **** so often it makes me wanna cry. Driving in Hyde park Sandton, my phone connects to hotel hotspots etc by itself if I am at a robot. In a shopping center, even more fun.

My old Nokia with android one firmware never did this so it's something Xiaomi intentionally enables. No way to disable this behaviour.

Correct, iOS would try to bring up the captive portal but won’t route all other traffic to it before it’s been authenticated so everything else still works.

Nothing to be added by 2045, iOS doesn’t fully connect to it in the first place.
