The ZAR Exchange Rate Thread

There is also Fed Chair Powell's comments about interest rate hikes that spiked the $ higher.

I did not see a spike so the zar did not respond to the land outcome. It was purely profit take as the zar was overbought on the short term.
We will still see the zar at 11.37 after a break at 11.50.

The land expropriation without compensation will not be like Zimbabwe and traders know that. Unused fallow land will be taken and distributed to those qualified to use it.

There was a spike at the exact time of the land outcome from 11.68 to 11.78.

Lol you can't be serious, name a single successful project still active from land given back to the people ;)

It won't be like Zimbabwe, it will be like Mozambique. The anc and eff want the government to own all the land.
Would love to see their faces when they lose an election and suddenly the DA is perceived to be the landlord

I heard about this, EFF says we will only be able to lease the land

Fortunately they're not in a position to make those changes. Once the bill is out; I assume it will be very different to the ideas of the EFF.

I think the DA will need to wait at least another ten years, to be in power.

With the amount of grants takers vs workers, the DA will never get into power. Why would the freeloaders stop voting for their freebies?

Moodys is going to decide whether we are going to junk status in March. From what I can gather it might not have happened because the budget was ok. Now with the land issue I think we will go to junk. Expect the Rand to lose more ground then as we will then be rated junk by all major ratings agencies.

Wow. 10c. What timeframe are you talking about? I looked at the 3m one and saw no sudden spike. I think you were using the daily.

It was just after 5pm when the motion was approved. It also climbed up from 11.52 during the day and went up during the meeting.

1 US Dollar equals
11.87 South African Rand

The way it is going, we'll be in the R12's again before COB.

No more overseas gadget+phone shopping until it settles back down again
