1 US Dollar equals
11.92 South African Rand

Cyril euphoria is well and truly dead now...
Guess when you tell everyone that you're going to start taking away farms with no compensation, investors are going to get a bit nervous?

So much for our petrol decrease taking the sting out of fuel tax increase.

Just profit taking and the normal volatility. The Cyril euphoria is over but better politics and economics will prevail. The zar will reach 11.4 with time.
No land grabs will happen to productive farms. There are too many farms lying fallow with owners either deceased or just not interested in farming all their vast land. I have no problem with this as long as it is given to capable black farmers who can afford their own equipment as it will bring prices of farm produce down and farm attacks will be more evenly distributed among the population groups.

There will be uncertainty until at least August. And probably well past that. And the eff is holding the metros hostage to keep the DA in line
I call 13 to the usd before August

Nah, this will blow over soon. R10:$1 this year.

The DA has lost the plot. Their political infighting in Cape Town has cost them dearly. EFF may switch alliances to the ANC.
I have never been a supporter of the ANC and the past 10 years or so are a sad era in my mind but things have changed.

I have always liked Cyril and his political views. He is intelligent and a very successful business man and does not need to dip his hands into the cookie jar as he has ample.
For the first time in many years I have faith in the SA economy.

I have for the past 2 years been saying "do not exchange zar to usd" and it was 15 at that time but many did. I will not laugh at them as it is heartbreaking. I stick to 11 or lower by August.

world markets are a little nervous about the FED, but other than that given that the rand is hovering around R12 as opposed to R14 I doubt there is much cause for concern at this stage

You mentioned it's just profit taking a few times. Did you buy rands or sell dollars at around 11.60 thinking it will go lower?

Basically this. Powell is a bit of an unknown "kinda". R12.50 is a possibility but we are still on a very strong down trend.

I have a feeling that the Rand is weakening because of the uncertainty of the interest rate hike in t he US. Once that has blown over, it will drop to low /mid R11's.

I think you right, I heard something like that on ENCA

It's cute how you think Cyril gets to decide the direction of the ANC.
It's obvious that he has a VERY tenuous hold over power in the NEC. Cabinet ministers are a president's prerogative, remember? And yet he kept some of the worst ones in a job.... He's very much compromised. Either not allowed to exercise his prerogative, or he CHOSE to keep them on. Neither is good news.
