There is some serious WP tile interface envy amongst Android users...?

This is the typical age old debate Linux vs windows in the end it comes down to preference. Having used android for 4 years I'm bored of it. Gone are the days where I want to flash my phone.

Working on both development environments I can say with conviction that the android development has got to be the worst I've ever experienced.

May I ask which Android phone are you currently using?

For the end-user, absolutely. That's why I've no personal gripe with either Apple or MS, and competition is the catalyst for innovation after all. Just don't spend your time flat-out making **** up, like the OP here, in an attempt to convince yourself of the superiority of what you favour.

Personally I am tired of android and the OEMs attitudes towards updating to the new version. Windows phones UI seem simple and fast and best of all I dont need to wait for OEMs to get the latest version. The choice is simple for me, its just a case of waiting for the right phone

Actually if you followed the "Beaten by Windows Phone 7" series, you will think twice about saying Android is faster. Single core Windows Phones were beating dual core Android phones.

Lack basic functionality? Seriously? Talk, sms, email, browse, social integration, camera, video, calendar, maps with live traffic? What "basic" features aren't included?

LOL, the man believes in smoke and mirrors, how quaint. You do know that the Beaten by Windows Phone competition was cooked and everytime the Android user called the activity the Windows Phone lost? Its all about how your phone is set up. For example I have a widget that allows me to enter calendar entries without entering an app, even better the widget allows me to see the next months appointments at a glance. Go try that with a Windows Phone?

@kingrob Wait, the average user loves tinkering with his phone's technical side? Which planet are you from? Samsung is selling well as a brand. The geeks are pushing Android at the stores. Does your non-tech mother, father or sister even know what an OS is? Google might not be making money from you (as those greedy MS or Apple people might try to do), but Google sure is making a bucket load of money via their ad networks on your phone. Just because you don't see it upfront, it doesn't mean Google is not taking your money.

And you recon price had nothing to do with it? If my maid can buy an Android phone, for cash, under R1000 without a contract don't you think that has something to do with her choice? The strength is that Android can hit every price group, think Shotgun vs sniper approach. You get bottom of the range all the way to top tier and the all have your basic abilities from Navigation to web browser and cameras, it can even do voice control, all for under a R1000.

Eco system means nothing when its only Skin deep. People do not go for eco systems because they all look the same, they go for it because they do not have to buy things over and over again. You know, buy once use all over the place.

Office?

While this is just one factor, it is a large part of people's lives as it constitutes productvity.

The only people who are shouting about apps are the Android and iOS fanboys how constantly try to push out the app advantage of the OSes they use.

Quite frankly, I can live with apps and being in the marketing department of my company I am even having problems convincing our management that we need to develop an app.

When we discuss issues to do with the department's IT, we speak on Windows ala Office. It just makes more sense to have it on a mobile device too as most professionals (and students) do not do their work only in their offices or classrooms.

Windows Phone is not perfect or even better at doing what other OSes are doing but it does offer a lot of very pertinent functionality.

And yes, I do lack experience with Android and I do not speak as a fundy on the subject matter, but what I know is that iOS and Android do not have Office.

Windows = productivity in most people's eyes.

Apple = Posh.

Android = Play (e.g. Google Play Store).

Oh wow, I did not know Android and iOS did not have Office? I wonder what this is then?

PS: You can also access Microsoft Office 365 via Android if that was your argument.

Edit: your other Office products are also covered, by none Other than Microsoft themselves.

You are correct. Plus AFAIK MS is almost finished developing actual Office for iOS.
However, most iPad users I have spoken to are very excited about the Surface coming bundled with 'actual' Office. Whether it is in their minds or true, lots of people want Microsoft Office - not a 3rd party program.
And yes, the amount of people I have asked this is limited to the people in my life so isn't exactly a benchmark.

You not the only one, I have had that as well, till I showed them how well other Office Suites works Both on PC and Mobile. (I make it my duty to force people to either buy legal MS Office or run LibreOffice.)

Do not know why they insist on Microsoft Office all the time when others do the job just as well, and in some cases even better.

Edit: For the record, I prefer OfficeSuite Pro on Android above others like QuickOffice and it sucks that OfficeSuite Pro not available on iOS :(

Have you used Office 2013? It's far better than any other suite I've used. And for people like me the cloud syncing stuff is really really useful.
Others may replicate this, but so far I haven't found an office suite who's UI is as nice to use.

YOU MEAN THE ONE THAT SCREAMS AT YOU? Yes, yes I have, not a fan of the ribbon or the YELLING, but that's just me so its a personal thing.

Edit: I am probibly one of the few people you will meet that has a full legal copy of Office 2013 Professional Plus and still use LibreOffice.

On my desktop Outlook takes up 2008800 pixels.
Of that, 7612 pixels are used to display menu tabs in CAPS.
That's 0.37% of the screen if my maths is correct.

But then again, I kinda like the caps menus in Office and Visual Studio.

Its not about the volume, its the case that its YELLING that irritates me:)

Also do not like the ribbon, prefer the old style menus, and like I said that is totally a personal preference.
