Being approached by a primary schoolgirl in the street. She said she was collecting money for a raffle but I smelled entrapment.

Ha! I'm guessing you approached her first, and upon smelling law around, shouted out, "I have no money for a raffle". And then fled. :)

Celebrities who are 150 years old who die and the whole world makes a huge thing about it - as if "they went to soon" type of BS.

Hunting, also looking at sourcing part myself.

Just make 100% sure what it is that's actually wrong, and what you need for it. I almost spent R3k on the wrong parts because Honda didn't clearly define what it is that they needed to replace in my car.

Aircon compressor dying on a 8 year old car with sub 100k mileage. Cost to repair/replace R12k on a car valued around R95k now or less.

Whats worse, called around, part is aprox R3k so they want to charge upwards of R6k labour.
Was this at a dealer or an independent aircon guy? If dealer I suggest you call a good mechanic in the area and ask where they send their cars for aircon repair. Take your car there and let them vacuum the system etc.

I had the same on the Tiguan and it appear to just be the solenoid not opening completely. They also have reconned compressors for around R3k including labour

The inability to sleep. I did everything I usually do to ensure a good night's rest. I avoided all electronics even when I lay in the dark waiting to succumb to the wiles of the Sandman. It was therefore broken sleep (literally napping) between 02:30 and 6. Eish! Such is life.

Aircon repair. I queried my mechanic who I trust and he put me on to some chaps in Pinetown. They tested the system and came back with the compressor being faulty. Quote was to replace compressor and evaporator as well as clean out system. Who did you go to?

Was about a week, and shipping was more than the actual compressor :o

Still pretty reasonable. A Recon one here is going for around R3.8k from what I can see. You pay duties?
