You've been on the internet a while and should know better, right?
Yeah, normally when I buy things I go and get it in person. This time I was too relaxed. The guy said he knew were I work and was heading to the Specialized bike shop anyway so he can drop it off for me. Even more convenient was that he was also with ABSA so the EFT would be instant. That was yesterday morning and this afternoon when I call him to see when he is planning on coming through I get no answer. So I head on over to Bikehub to see if he has other contact details listed but his account has been banned. Realising that I have been scammed I head on over to the Scams section and low and behold, there is a thread about him made yesterday already warning that he has returned and is scamming again. After my post there (linked above) the Admin sent me a PM saying they are aware of who he is and have contact details and will assist me.
The admin also pointed me to this thread which was quite a read : https://www.bikehub.co.za/topic/166762-trilad/page-1
As I read through it I learn that in person he honors deals - kind of - but that he does like the odd con job. One fellow hubber managed to track down his parents place and had a word with them. So I PM this guy as we have dealt before and he provides me with the parents contact numbers. Now I am not going to get into too much details, but these folks stay in a place not far out of S/West and they are not exactly the rich type. Their son was a good performer on school, got into med school, was a good triathlete and then became friends with the wrong people. Everything went sideways from there and now he does scams to feed his habit.
Talking on the phone I can tell this mother is so embarrassed, I feel very bad for her - and they are the kind of folks that will survive and have their pride and will not live on charity. I suggest to her that I give her the account to which I paid and she verifies if it is indeed that of her son and if everything is ok with him. But she says no, she would rather refund me and insist I send her my bank details. After that conversation I did not know what to do, I don't want to take her money for something her son did, as I said, I know where these people live and R1500 is a lot more money for them than it is for me.
Not even 5 minutes after the call ended and I am still trying to figure out what to do she calls me back and tell me I must please SMS my details. This poor women just wants this all to go away, so I send it and she calls me again saying she will go to the bank tomorrow and do the transfer.
I tell the Admin on Bikehub and the guy that gave me their details how it panned out and the other hubber tells me when he went to their place initially - with two other guys that also got scammed - the lady refunded them and they felt just as bad.
So I guess in the end what irritates me is not getting scammed (which is being fixed) but how some people can throw away their live like that. I am sure it was not easy for this dude to reach the heights he did, but the demise thereof and what it must have done and is still doing to his parents. That is sad.
Thanks for the info Fanie, good to know that.
Yeah I somehow feel they are enabling him, but without knowing the full background I can't pass judgement.
Well, now we know why he keeps on scamming, got these messages from the mother.
Maybe he plans on getting a second payout from the scammerThat is obviously fake. Rouxenator is never so friendly.![]()

So if he pays you back you'll just pay it back to his parents and he remains none the wiser how his scamming ways are affecting his parents? He's a piecs of excrementNah, I want to leave that whole sordid mess behind. He can keep what I paid him, in effect he just stole from his parents.
correction. get married and have a baby. then it over.Get married and you'll never do it again
True... But now that the little one is at a school going age it happens a bit more.correction. get married and have a baby. then it over.
Living in the CBD and complains about noise.*sigh*
for the past hour I've had to endure an open air Church service outside of my flat, with the music and clapping and preaching and all that
