I'm on a phone now and signal isn't great ... But I've taken a photo earlier in the thread.

The older one has a little USB dongle - but I haven't plugged it in yet

Yes I would also like to know whether Telkom shops will have stock tomorrow. And whether payment via 24 instalments of R49 as per the article will be accepted at the store.

The stream I used show multiple quality options on a PC (below). I also tried multiple UHD streams on both a PC and the box - but the box only goes to 1080 in any stream.

Sorry, I'm a bit late to the party here.

The KU7000 only has 1 HDMI 2.0 port which would be 4k enabled. Is your box plugged into that port?

This would depend entirely on the TV. With some TVs, not all of the HDMI ports are HDCP 2.2 compliant. You would need to make sure that your 4k device is plugged into an HDMI 2.0 port...
 
I had it plugged into the right port

EDIT : In fact you can select UHD in the main Android system. Just within the app, it doesn't do UHD. They got an update though, so I'll try get one this evening

Btw I think that one port is HDR. The others are UHD and non HDR to my knowledge

You are actually correct, hdmi 2.0 and over is needed for HDR and higher frame rate for 4k but hdmi 1.4 and newer is all that is needed for 4k to be displayed
 
I connected it to a Full HD TV and the main OS only picked up 1920 x 1080 - so it detected mine has UHD resolution for sure.

As mentioned, the one port is only HDMI 2.0 which allows for the HDR metadata ; but UHD has been supported by HDMI 1.4 since late 2009. In other words, all ports are UHD and only one UHD HDR

One port would be 4K/60z and then others 4K/30hz more than likely.

But should have HDR on all of them.

I remember reading it in reviews and it was a negative point that most brought up. When you do go the colour menu, only 1 port is selectable with the other 2 being greyed out. Unsure if it's changed on the 2017 models though

Enable 'UHD Colors' for 4:4:4 at 4k and 60Hz on HDMI1. This is not possible on HDMI2 or HDMI3. Text becomes more clear when sending a 4:4:4 signal. 120Hz input is not supported.

Reading that at first I assumed it's all at the same time going by the list. But now after what you said the thing they say about it's only possible on HDMI1 makes sense.

I read it as only possible 4K@60hz 4:4:4 on HDMI1 and not so much that 4:4:4 is only possible on HDMI1 regardless of resolution.

That sucks and is a bit silly really.

But that begs the question does that mean only HDMI1 is 18GBPS? Because HDR should still be fine even without that.

Or is 10-bit only available on HDMI1?

Or is it rather a PS4 problem and it works with other devices? I know the PS4 Pro can be very finicky with this stuff.

The KU7000 is not actually an HDR TV - I always refer to it as half HDR . I used it earlier to HDR as it reads and announces HDR content.

It's only an 8-bit panel and manages 400nits brightness, so maybe twice as bright as a standard TV. But, it does support 10 bit colour deprth with 1 billion+ colours, and most the DCI-P3 colour space

It will announce when it gets HDR metadata and that's what I used it for earlier in this thread, as I can see if the box is outputting correctly.
