I don’t want to use the crappy Android remote but rather use my Samsung TV remote instead.
 
Dstv Now works perfectly through the Chromecast. When a live TV channel " loads" it starts with the dimmed effect for a second or two and then goes into the normal way it should look. Can't remember if it does this with shows/movies.
 
@Piesang : For casting you have to use the native casting icon within an app. The cast screen/audio function within the Google Home app only mirrors your screen and is not the same quality as native casting in general.

If this LIT Box can't cast properly then it is a definite dud to me. Was considering it as an on screen box with casting ability.

No the unit supplied remote is rubbish.

That’s why I want HDMI-CEC to work properly so I could use my Samsung TV remote instead.

As it stands it’s not really doing much CEC with the packed remote other than switching off.

But I mean I don't think the remote should make any difference to HDMI CEC - the issue must be something else.

What model Samsung TV are you using?
What does the remote look like?

H6400 and it’s the oval remote.

Works with other HDMI-CEC devices like PS4 no problem.

So the LIT box doesn’t seem fully implemented.

Even when using the LIT Remote it only really does power. Volume is completely “internal” to the unit and doesn’t adjust the Receiver.

Yes Dstv now is supposed to officially supported but only time will tell if this is true.. in the mean time we can have fun trying to get this box to work properly.. basically put together a 1 time setup that we all can use with Kodi, dstv now and other apps

Cool. Thanks. I will stick with the latest version of DSTV NOW for the time being. I don't mind clicking at the bottom to enable full screen. But keep us posted on finding a screen brightness app please.

What is so special about this LiT box? The name is crappy ( LIT ) Telkom could surely have come up with a far better name to name their (LIT) product?

The HDMI-CEC works in so far as auto-switching channel on receiver though.

I just Cast to it while receiver was set to PS4 and it happily changed channel and started playing. So it seems some of the functions are there.

Casting to Plex doesn't work the same, but that's using it's own internal functions and it doesn't work on ATV either so not really trainsmash there.

With the price difference being low and all these issues encountered by LIT box having being solved ages ago on Mi Box ...The choice seems obvious

It depends from person to person.

I was pleasantly surprised to be quite frank.

For R40.60 per month (x24) I get an Android TV box that supports: Netflix (albeit via sidelaunching which works a breeze - even my 7 year old can install), Kodi, DSTV Now (sidelaunch) and Showmax, and pretty much everything else. Sure there are some teething problems. But nothing major as far as I am concerned.

Then it supports Google casting (acts like a chromecast), have a remote that is not too shabby in my opinion (sure you can get better - but it will also cost you a bit), is powerful enough to playback most of the demanding sources out there, and have 3 USB slots and one SPDIF slot. Bot bad for R40.60 a month or about a grand I think in cash... ;)
