I want to buy me a new PC . I got PC int. latest pricelist and have put a few parts together. I'd like to spend about R4000. This is what I have put together :

Intel E2180 2.0 GHz 1mb cache
ASUS P5KPL-VM
1 GB DDR2800
160GB HHD
'17' Samsung screen
Geforce 8600GT 512 mb
Standard keyboard + mouse
280W Speakers
Midi tower 300W
DVD RW Drive
It's about R3401,76. Does any of you have a better idea of which parts to take? I'm gona use it for gaming (in a lan) and overclocking it to see what clockspeed I can get to.

That 8600GT is gonna make your rig suck :( with a 128bit bus games are going to crawl when you put up the settings & resolution.

Also for a Mobo I would get the New Gigabyte GA-73VM-S2 nForce 610i Motherboard it's about R752.00

Rather get a HD3850 you can get them for about R1800 :) http://www.prophecy.co.za/gecube-hd3850-256mb-pcie-graphics-card-p-23669.html

I don't know how's P5KPL-VM's ability to Overclock your CPU, because instead buying this one I bought G31MX-S2 a month ago.

I seriously recommend you to get a budget motherboard which has the option to overclock your processor (According to my internet search, some say P5KPL-VM can use to oc, some say no such option).

To Killadoob:R899 excl Vat for 8600GT 512MB.

If you can, try to go for another gig of RAM. RAM Prices atm are rather good.

AMD is still the better value for money buy.

E2140/E2160 are both uber cheap and are virtually guaranteed to OC to 3.0GHz with minimal or no Vcore increase, ..and you don't even need an insane motherboard due to the low FSB.

What is the cheap Intel based motherboard you would suggest for overclocking?

I was going to get the Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L (+/- R1k), but they had no stock, then the GA-P35-DS3L(+/- R1.2k), but was posed with waiting 2 weeks or taking my current board for the same price.

In retrospect I wish I had waited, cos these blasted Nvidia chipsets don't accept 45nm Quads!!! Which was contrary to what they stated at the time!!Bastards...

P.s. The P31 doesn't like to have all 4 dimm slots populated (I believe due to the P35/ICH7 combo), but is a monster-budget-OC'er.

Someone with some sense around here. Don't need to overclock your precious intel into oblivion to play a game.

Crysis runs well on a E2160! I don't think Sup Com will be able to manage it tho :P that game is a CPU stress test in it's self!
