TimeMachine over network?

Ok. How do you create this sparse image. Do u just format the drive in Mac OS journaled and that's it or what else?

Disk Utility
New image
Image Format - sparse image bundle
Choose size you want I chose 500gb
Mount and then format with Mac OS Journaled
create network share to share on network
copy the image you created over and mount it
start timebackup

So had a spare PI lying around and some time, following this guide created a Time Capsule for Time Machine.

Use rPi as a Time Capsule - another method

It's working pretty well, initial backup took a while but now I can just sit back and backups take place when scheduled.
I can also power the PI down and move the drive, slot it into the MacBook and it shows all my backups one there, even restored a file as test.

I formatted hdd first using OS X journaled.

I also do mine with a external. Since I have a 128gb MacBook Air I made an partition sized at 120gb on the external just for TimeMachine use formatted in the Mac OS Journaled format. The rest is still in NTFS and installed Paragon on the MacBook in order to read and write to NTFS formatted drives. To my knowledge NTFS performance in general is better than exFAT especially for the less fortunate Windows users.
