Tips to Boost your eBucks

How does this account perform? Have been on a 4mb MWEB account for a few years now that has been performing very well. Streaming (mainly Supersport streaming) is my main use. Don't do any torrents or other downloads really.

Had a few teething problems since the new rules kicked in, but if all goes well I should be back on RL5 this month. Was short 1000 points but just noticed my cheque account balance has not dropped below R50k for this month so should hit 18,000 points exactly. From next month the R10k investment points should kick in as well.

Torrents are blocked 24/7. NNTP shaped to 50% speed during the day. Browsing seems be ok ,unless you went over the 10gb FUP daily limit.

I used it for maybe 2 hours.

It was that bad. Just don't bother if you plan to stream anything.

Strange enough, supersport streams streamed perfectly well at 720p on the fnbconnect account the few times I tested it.
NNTP yeah downloaded slow, and slows down more and more as you try, so I leave that to my VOX after hours uncapped.

It's a bit of a hit and miss with FNB. I currently have two torrents downloading at full line speed of 6mbs. My NNTP downloads all completed this morning also at full line speed.

Someone at my work also download 24/7. Just encrypt your downloads

I got shaped even with an SSTP vpn (which is all traffic encrypted over an SSL connection, all they see is https traffic) once i hit the 10GB cap.

I use it as backup for the last few days of the month and it does fine for something which is free!

How does this account perform?

As I've run out on my main account I'm giving this a try until the end of the month.

The web is nice an zippy while I'm streaming Sky News. When I downloaded yesterday and today over http I got about half account/line speed.

I was planning to be back onto RL5 but it seems like Dischem only put through some of last month's transactions on the 1st. Hence I will be missing the 4000 points for 100% C/C spend needed and will still be on 14000 RL3.

Looking at a temporary way to get 2000 points with (on Gold for double my current earn):

Make use of one of the following FNB credit products which must be in good standing: an Overdraft facility of at least R2 000 of which you have used at least 10%.
I just want to know if there is a monthly fee for adding this to your cheque. My plan is to get it for a day and then pay it off so I can at least earn RL4. Anybody done this and can give me some pointers. You only pay interest on outstanding amount, right?

Edit - OK found the R57 Fee when going into overdraft for R200...A bit steap but stil worth it with potential ebucks earned.

Couple of posts back someone suggested a personal loan which carries a 13% fee of the amount requested... Lets see if I can get a R100 temp loan -- edit R300 minimum hence R39 fee fir 2000 points

How will Dischem affect your 100%?

Without it your spend will still be 100% as long as you used your credit card and only your credit card.

Not sure how you're struggling on gold. I get 24000 points without even trying. Just make sure that you don't use your cheque card and only draw cash at till...

I was on the calculator today and saw a tip regarding the spend at checkers. Does anyone have a proper idea how it works? I called e bucks twice and spoke to two different consultants who gave two different answers!

What are you asking exactly?

If it's the spend limit tip, check if your qualifying spend at the bottom of the calculator is 5x more than your Chekers spend. If its not 5x more (or greater), you (like me) are losing out on some eBucks. The solution (to maximise eBucks) is to adjust your Checkers spend to be 1/5th of qualifying spend.
In other words, spend a bit more at Spar :)
Example:
Qualifying spend = R5000
Checkers Spend = R1350
So you'll only earn eBucks on the first R1000
Rather spend the other R350 at another supermarket chain and score eBucks at your usual swipe rate

Don't you get eBucks at your usual swipe rate after hitting the cap anyway?

So no point really to shop elsewhere.

You just need to push up the overall spend. Which you obviously do when shopping elsewhere, so that does indirectly increase you Checkers eBucks.

I asked that question some time ago on this thread ... nobody answered. But I don't thinkI did. I'll double check. So i think its a "hard cap". Again ... I'll check when I next log on to the eBucks site to confirm.

Yeah I jus tried to look but on my phone it's not easy to navigate.

I don't see anything specifically which tells me up to 20% you get the special Checkers rate and beyond that it's normal swipes.

Last month I had to upgrade from classic to gold, since my classic c/c did not qualify anymore. So for a while I had no c/c and proceeded to put everything on my cheque card. That said I was planning on getting the 100% C/C spend option to reach RL5 and stopped using my Cheque card a week before the end of the month. Then Dischem decided to put through their transactions on the 1st. So I have 1 Cheque card transaction for this month that is going to cost me about R450 worth of ebucks. School fees I guess.

Aaah you meant the problem was that they put it through after the first.

I got from your post that you wanted it all after the first.

Same thing happened to me with one single transaction as well.
