Hi all,

Today I got my Simsonke sim due to all the praise for it here on the forum.

While roaming, I dont have a data connection. My Samsung Pocket says that there is no data while roaming, even though I have set it to use data while roaming.

Is this normal with TM Simsonke? I was hoping that once I have tested the network I could port my number in.

Sadly I dont live within TM coverage, but I do work in a coverage zone.

Simsonke is voice only afaik. Its only used for the cheap call rate.
You have to get 8.ta sim for data.

Sounds right, no use having the sim in an android phone then.

I see they have data only sims too now. Seems stupid to limit a sim card.

What bundle did you buy? You can have two active bundles roaming and non-roaming in the same time. Non-roaming will be used first (in the area of TM coverage). Roaming bundle will be used outside TM coverage or after non-roaming has been depleted.

Sim Sonke will only allow you to buy Telkom Mobile bundles and this may be a situation coming from a the launch to the beginning of this month when Sim Sonke did not roam on the MTN network. We must all ask Telkom Mobile to also allow all network bundles to be loaded on this sim (I would like to load the 3GB iPad bundle and use the card in an iPhone).

So if I understand correctly- without a bundle there is no data connection.

So this protects your airtime from being depleted when your bundle is finished.

Very very silly answers given here.......................

With sim sonke data is most allowed and available....

When you buy a data bundle it only works on the TM network...... Once you start to roam you should get the following sms....

"You are now accessing the internet at out-of-bundle data rates. Dial *180# to purchase a new bundle"

Don't stress it simply means you will now be paying 29c per mb while roaming on MTN and you bundle will kick in once you back on the TM network.... *the all network bundles are not yet available on sim sonke.... so its just 29c per mb while roaming for now....

This is what is should be... Don't let people confuse you saying its a calling only plan ect ect. If its not acting like that that means something is wrong....

I know cause I have the sim sonke in my Galaxy note 2 now.

There are lot of changes on SIM sonke, but I think FireTelkom clarified things which need rep attention.
I use older non-roaming SIM which cannot be used on MTN (once it had been converted to non-roaming - PSP promo plan). Since then SIM sonke had been converted from non-roaming to roaming, but they can't purchase standard bundles, but on above SIM I can. I think it is an omission an will be rectified.

Re stopping data when roaming. What exactly happen when roaming?
1. Do you have your browser redirected to TM OOB WEB page (which normally is asking for your permission)?
2. Can you still access http://onnet.8ta.com?
3. Is your device is unable to register to 3G or it accepts registration (MTN 3G indicator on)?

Or is your phone not allowing data roaming. In my iPhone I must switch on data roaming.
