Is this fact or your opinion? Seems odd that things become invisible in certain spots. A bike/car will always be in a blind spot at some point when passing another vehicle. Whether on the white line or in the middle of the lane.
I also thought that the painted lines are quite slippery if slightly wet. Given that, it seems like it would be much more dangerous for a biker to drive on the line.
Fact.
It’s called physics and/or trigonometry combined with statistics.
It’s also why it’s slowly but surely being legalised in America because they’ve woken up to the fact that motorcycle road deaths tie in directly with a lack of lane splitting when compared to lane splitting legal states like California.
There will always be blind spots, but the fact is it’s vastly reduced through lane splitting.
And yes the painted lines are very slippery when wet, which is why nobody actually rides on them but rather next to them.

Found a decent image to demonstrate.
See how much longer the bike would be in the blind spot if travelling in the centre of the lane? Or worse riding wide.
It’s also partly why it’s recommend for bikes to travel 10-15km/h than surrounding traffic to reduce time in the blind spot.
Beyond the physical blindspot there is also the psychological phenomenon whereby people simply don’t see bikes even while looking directly at them, because they expect to see cars. Happens even to me as a biker on the odd occasion, especially the buggers riding with no lights.
There is also just less sheet metal to catch your eye so even looking at a bike straight ahead you don’t see it.
Which is why lane splitting is further safer behind cars don’t see bikes behind cars as they merge with the lights and the number one cause of injury is being rear ended like that.
I tried not to lane split for all of one week before I got rear ended in broad daylight in a 60 zone.

Obviously this excludes the lunatics going crazy land speed record style between cars.
Fastest I’ll go between 1st - 2nd gear stop go traffic is 35-40km/h and I consider that pushing it. I have years of experience reading the road by now and know what to look for.
50,000km odd without incident lane splitting. Before that 40,000 odd km and by and large my own mistake for going too fast and locking the rear because I wasn’t paying attention and/or ignoring the signs.
