While this is cool, how can you say no to googles own free maps app?

Would be nice to leave a URL or even a QT code to the app so people that are intrested can get it easily.

Why do I get the Your Device Is Not Compatible With This Version message? S3 not supported or what?

Proper offline navigation is the attraction for me when it comes to sourcing other navigation apps. Data costs scare me.

I am currently using Sygic, which I am lead to believe uses Tom Tom maps, so I see no need to spend money on this. Not sure what more it will offer?

Joke is my 2 year old devices can install it no problem. But my brand new ones, hell no.

Go figure :(

It's the screen resolution. It doesn't support any 720p phones. So no support for S3, One X, Gnex, etc.

See here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...-doesnt-work-with-any-modern-high-end-device/

Still, I expect that they will fix this pretty quickly. And while it is expensive, it's a lot less than the cost of a standalone GPS unit. It would be quite useful for people who do a lot of driving in areas of the country that don't have good cellular coverage.

The Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3, and HTC Sensation did not appear to be supported.

Come on, I would think that these devices are the most important to support at launch!

Too late, when I needed it it wasn't there, now I use Copilot (tablet) and Sygic (phone).

Sygic works pretty well, recently also used it in the UK, France and Croatia.

None of my devices are supported. Fail. What is it with TomTom? Apple is struggling to make their product work and now Android users get something ... that turns out to be nothing.

They where trying to help android users that felt left out. Now we can also brag about a mapping app that is not working.

You can buy maps as you need them, just SA is fairly cheap.

I bought the worldwide set, as I was planning an overseas trip. Can't remember price, was USD50 or USD60.

There is a lot of features that is not covered in Google Maps, like notifications - speed traps, traffic, etc.

I have a TomTom Go1000 which I purchased early last year, primarily for the so called Live HD traffic updates, I have had numerous problems with my Go1000, but the most disappointing problem was that the TomTom/ZA lackey responsible for entering and broadcasting the traffic updates was still fast asleep at the time I am normally on the N1(N) in the mornings, afternoon notifications were somewhat better.

TomTom's marketing surrounding the Live HD traffic updates made it sound like it was a completely automated system that received 'telemetry' info from vehicle tracking companies and other TomTom devices (GPRS) to determine where traffic had snarled up followed by broadcasting of notifications, I soon discovered that was not true at all and seems to involve a lazy incompetent person somewhere in the TomTom Live HD traffic loop.

The TomTom Android app does sound good, but based on my experience with the Go1000 as well as TomTom's money making firmware+maps update schemes, I will not fork out even a small amount of money to try TomTom's Android app.

Then there is just the small matter of TomTom's iOS6 app that has been widely reported to be a disaster of epic proportions, which leaves me with the impression that TomTom's app dev skills are just as bad as their firmware dev skills for the Go1000.

As for "TomTom does the Robot" it looks more like a bunch of wannabe zombie extras from a very low budget TV film.

Each to their own.

Except for the Google Maps traffic layer and Google Now traffic notifications?
