TopTV special launched - R299 dish, decoder and installation bundle

Oddly enough On Digital Media used to be called On Demand Media, dunno what happened there...
 
I have TopTV and although the programming may not be that good compared to DSTV (old, retro content) it is a lot more affordable and offers enough entertainment and info to make it worth the price.
If TopTV manage to get the MNet and SuperSport channels on board Multichoice would be in trouble.

I'm not paying R500+ for TV regardless of how good the content is.
 
IMHO the best value is the TopTV package for R189pm. Music, News, Documentaries. The only programme I watch on MNet is Carte Blanche, I hate most these American sitcoms.

Using the same dish and LNB yes but not at the same time. The 2 satellites are about 50 degrees apart. (in different directions)

I wrote to Top TV early on urging them to initiate a case against DSTV for 'abuse of dominant position' but they never replied.

TOP TV seem to miss the fact that they won't get the main body of DSTV Compact subscribers if they can't prise English Premier League matches from DSTV's iron grasp.

In the UK, Sky were taken to court by a rival broadcaster and forced to provide the sport feeds to them (not for free of course).

If Top TV's target audience is, shall we say, those who can't justify the full DSTV package i.e. Compact and below users, they need to address this issue.

Given the loooooong lead times of the SA judicial process, better get started now.

DSTV can now use its HD offering (and Rugby) as the differentiator not Football.

I would really like to see Top TV do well (and become a customer)
 
Hmm I wonder if this could mean the TopTV PVR will be launched soon. Clearing old stock?

I had TopTV for 2 months, and had to cancel it because I moved, and it was a nice change from the rubbish on the SABC channels. BUT, I had a hell of an ordeal getting TopTV to actually cancel my service. It took 14 phone calls, emails and faxes, and 2 HelloPeter complaints, none of which were responded to.

The repeats became a bit too... well... repetitive closer to the end, but for the price I can't complain. I loved watching Discovery Science.

So at this stage I really recommend it only to the Alzheimer-afflicted who wouldn't even realize they have been watching the same show for the last week over and over again. Hopefully TopTV can address this soon enough.

Agreed I can't wait for the day that Toptv gets Formula 1 on their sport content then I will definitely move to Toptv sinces F1 is the only reason I currently have dstv.
 
These guys are certainly to go places. Good for competition (I hope).
 
Just the TopTV EPG alone is worth switching over to them. Their interface so slick and responsive compared those rubbish DSTV decoders.

Their EPG is not great though, there is a terrible waste of space with the massive TopTV logo and its slightly clumsy, it would be nice if we could see a re-designed EPG system in the future.

With channels like BET, Fox Entertainment, Discovery Science, Discovery Travel & Living, Investigation Discovery, JimJam, Kidsco, Fine Living Network, Current TV, MGM, as well as music and award winning news channels. With popular series and programmes like Grey’s Anatomy, Boston Legal, Ally McBeal, The Simpsons, Thomas and Friends, Bob the Builder, Paddington Bear, Brothers and Sisters, The 4400 and much much more, there is something for everyone.

In September audiences will be treated to a feast of programming with a documentary on Nelson Mandela with never before seen footage. TTV channels

I have been a DSTV Compact subscriber until May 2010 when TTV launched. I joined early in May and so far I am very happy.

Some series are repeating but TTV explained this is because when they started they didn't have many subscribers at the time and therefore to grant them the opportunity to watch the series from the beginning they will start at episode 1 again.

Glad that Buffy is finally over on FOX, simply LOVE!! Grey's Anatomy (have never watched this series and is very glad TTV is showing "old" episodes, i.e. season 1).

Also enjoy The 4400 and Kyle XY (wonder when it will start again?)

As for service, there are some breaks in transmission but TTV do show an apology message after service has been restored (well, usually they do). A call centre operator phoned me once to ask for my e-mail address as my e-mail statements kept bouncing back to them, now that is service!

On PVR, there is speculation that TTV will simply convert (by means of a software download, and presumably a storage device, USB) the existing decoders into PVR capable decoders. But that is only a rumour.

One of the new channels confirmed to be launched on 1 October 2010 is ASTV (Afrikaanse Satelliet Televisie), which will compete with KykNet on DSTV.

There are some good programs/channels on TTV and some terrible programs (enjoy most of their channels at different times), the biggest problem for me is their scheduling of programs. Many programs I would like to watch shows too early or too late in the day, and with the recording via VCR blocked, the PVR option cannot come quickly enough!

Well considering that they are disturbing the monopoly they must be good guys then. I just never could pay R500+ for TV. Especially if (like most people on this forum) you have ADSL and download all your ****e. I'm sure that if TopTV bring more channels worth it they will reap the benefits. South Africans are hungry for anything proper.

Look if a all in rollout (include month subs and equipment) of just over R500 does not spark your interest. Then you most certainly fit the SABC, ETV demographic, Fail TV lol.
