Torrents versus DC++ (Speedwise)

Dont make urself an outsider to be different, you can have your special tastes and interests but u can still fit in with society.

You have to ask yourself exactly what society and exactly what your fitting into.

If you mean the general stuff we all have to do (within reason) to survive, then yes - by all means fit in, you pretty much have to. That would be getting a job, a place to live, medical aid etc.

If, on the other hand, your refering to "fitting in" with the "accepted norm", then you'll have a hard time, because there really isn't one, or rather, there's a bunch of them.

Celebrate being different, don't hide it. If you've got the brain power to think beyond the average, don't waste it because your scared of what people may think of you.

I've spent parts of my life doing that and parts not doing it - no prizes for guessing which parts gave me the most enjoyment, or at least led me to actually LIVE my life, as opposed to existing.

School really is a horrible place if you stand out from the "accepted norm", but rest assured that the people who pick on you will end up living boring lives in their boring little homes, with their 2.5 children. Nothing wrong with that if you have no desire to be anything more than a consumer.

At school you have to hide away certain things, or face being picked on all the time - use your brains and you'll be fine, in fact, you can use it to your advantage.

When you get older - usually starting from college or uni, you'll find most the people will start wanting to be different as they get older and you'll have a head start.

Being different on purpose is great if your doing it for the right reasons, those reasons are ones of exploring, learning and creating.

If nobody was ever "different", nothing would ever get done.

Even Matt & LGM fitt in somewhere (like a dungeon in eastern Europe - hows that for a new experience ;) )

I'll assume your joking there, as you would actually have to know something about my life before assuming who I am and what I've done. I have made no such assumptions about yourself.

Oh, and byrd, if you really must know.

I've got "Camper Van Beethoven" next to "REM" and "the triplets of belleville" next to "8 mile"

Go figure - diversity - it's called exploring.

Rofl, i know i see it happen all the time, at the moment i am happy when i can go to school and the nerd herd of boys in my class are there and we can all talk about the latest tech. its just i get the smart cracks all day because they dont understand how i can be normal but also have these strange interests, because i will admit my friends do lead introverted lives and are quite nerdy.

I think its wrong that they aren't really experiencing the big bad world..

Because i am in the smart class for most of my subjects( ive found 95% of people who are interested in technology and computers etc. are usually quite intelligent and bright) the cool kids in our class are like outsiders and that irritates them senseless as they strive for attention.

But still a bit hard to swallow that every one of my friends ( well close friends ) has and so far will be sweet sixteen......

BB_Matt ill agree with you there you should not disclose everything at school as teenagers dont accept different, only what they are told and taught by the media is "normal". Which i find boring.

I always wonder what the cool kids do for 5 weeks of holiday, as they have no interests or hobbies really. After the first week they are bored stiff and this ends up usually with them being stoned the rest of the holidays how boring when u could rather be arguing on MYADSL...........

there will always be certain clicks and the popular kids, the normal kids the nerds, the complete outcasts and lets not forget the skanks: - P
But if i told some of my friends one of my best bands is Alphaville i would be ridiculed senseless and then the girls would think im strange.

No doubt it was a bit of humour as you may have picked up from the wink emoticon.

Now to matters more serious - you shouldn't have them next to each other they should be organised into categories ;)

Personally i haven't had too much joy on dc++ so far. Usually from torrents i get about 30-50K on all downloads, with dc++ i can't seem to get above 10k. Usually my best bet is to try and find someone in my area who has similar interests and has a large collection and is willing to exchange files. When i log onto dc++ with 560gigs shared i tend to get a lot of people trying to copy off me :/

Lol Dc++ is fine.....but cross over gigabit gives u 25meg/sec.....much more effective! Check your pm's

At least with torrents I don't have to find a freaking open slot.

Wow how these threads deteriorate!

When did it go from what badwidth do you get to "i hate dc++/BT/whatever"
Cos lately me too is having serious slow speeds on torrents and dc++, it sux!

I have two adsl accounts too, two seperate isp's and they both give the same slow speeds.

Thnx

Speed

I am getting 25kB/s with strong dcc on the sa hub. Not bad but i would love more, actually who wouldnt.

Torrents

Will one be able to download torrents if they are capped?

That Azureus thing is a tricky mofo to configure, how do you set it up correctly for a router?

I'm using ABC and even tho it works, it keeps yapping abt this and that part failed hash check.

aaand whats weird I've been getting 32kb/s almost all day now.. usually its 12kb/s max. Could the shaping thing be out of order?

yes, please. divulge some secrets about setting up your azureus to get the best speeds. also, what local dc++ hubs are there OTHER than the ones already mentioned here? i dont think the best ones are listed...

and one more thing... local torrents? how the heck and where do i find them?
