Trading Trouble

Another thought...

The rest of the drive that is visible looks fairly "clean". i.e. if it was dropped on a hard surface (pretty much the only thing that could cause that) by accident, it'd have scratches and more "dings" (haha). Is that damage isolated?

If it helps, there was a little piece of black something or other in the anti-static packaging??? Piece of the drive, perhaps? Dust? Wtf.

Wow, I'm sorry that I missed this part.

This would prove that the fault does not lie in Lycanthrope's hands. I have noted this and will take it up seriously with the supplier this morning.

What have your suppliers communicated to you?

Not too much just as yet, other than that the drive is being sent to WD/the relevant people today at 10:00 or Wednesday. I have asked them to hold on to it until Wednesday so I can type out a detailed report that can be sent with the HDD to WD/whomever for review before their assessment.

The damage is definitely isolated to the point of impact. No other dings or scratches were visible anywhere. Hmmm.

Good morning

I am sure you are all awaiting eagerly for an update on the drive as well as a picture of the damage.

The supplier actually emailed me this morning with a picture of the drive. This email, and my thoughts, has been forwarded to Lycanthrope.

I can confirm that this picture is an exact representation of the state of the drive after it was brought to me by one of the technicians on Friday.

To those who think I have just grabbed a random image off Google Images, I will still be going to the supplier in a short while to take a picture myself with a timestamp.

Your thoughts?

My thoughts, as communicated to Lycanthrope:

1. Do you think that the damage shown in the picture is easily noticeable?

2. Was the drive only handled from the top (sticker side showing) so that you could not see the damage?

3. Was the drive damaged like this prior to your giving it to me, or did you not see?

4. If WD damaged it themselves, the damage would have been there from the day I delivered it, and the damage would only not have been noticeable if handling the HDD from the top.

5. If the supplier damaged it prior to my buying it then the damage would have been there from the day I delivered it, and the damage would only not have been noticeable if handling the HDD from the top.

6. It is possible that the drive was damaged by the supplier after my bringing it in, although unlikely because they did not know whether I had examined the drive or not prior to giving it to them; my gut tells me that they are an ethical company, I've never heard of any horror stories such as the supplier damaging parts to deem them non-refundable/swappable, but I am open to the possibility.

I look forward to hearing your responses.

As replied to in the e-mail:

Morning,

To be honest, I don't remember that, but then I've said that I don't remember any damage on the drive from the start. And no, I don't think I would've noticed that because I was too far into "woot-woot" mode to have paid that much attention... Sorry. I also just have the feeling that if I did see a "ding" like that, I would've just shrugged it off as being "part of the manufacturing process" or whatever you'd like to call it. Hence why if I did notice it, I've forgotten it, and why it never stuck out as a cause.

Anyway...to answer...:

1. Yes, if you know what you're looking for. But not if you don't immediately suspect something to be wrong with the drive...

2. I'm sure I would've looked at the bottom even if just to get a sneak peak at the greenness at the bottom. Again, note what I said before - I wouldn't have picked up on something that minor unless I knew something was wrong with the drive from the start....

3. See 2.

4. See 2.

5. See 2?

6. See 2.

Thanks again for the trouble... But I have my sincere doubts that this is going to turn out the way I'd like it to.

So lycan found the broken piece in the bag, there are no visible scratches from point of impact.

So one would assume this drive was dropped while still in the anti-static packaging but the supplier in question.

Case closed, now its just a matter of what you decided is the right course of action postman.

I think he's doing the best he can with what circumstances allow... All I can do is wait and see.

Thanks for your support :)

<--- appreciates it :D

Good afternoon all

I'm pleased to announce that everything has been resolved and that Lycanthrope will be refunded for the HDD (as communicated to him telephonically straight after I found out the good news).

Long story short, supplier agreed to credit my account after verbal discussion about all possibilities involved, which in turn allows me to refund Lycanthrope. Big props to my supplier.

Feeling rather rejuvenated now that everything has been sorted out.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.

You should have made yourself the hero and said you would take the hit on the noise even though you knew your supplier was fixing it :p

O well good to see everything is sorted out.

Nice work, PP :)

*nod* Must say I'm impressed as well.

Thank you for everything, PP. I have to admit you've done more than I had expected you would, and - to say the least - I'm happy that the screw up happened with someone of your calibre, otherwise I'd probably have been left with nothing :)

Any ETA for that refund, by the way?

And thanks again!

Fook me you push your luck :D

Thank you for the positive feedback all.

"Probably" tomorrow. :D

No really, this CPU I've ordered has its ETA set as tomorrow, I will use my credit to cover that and you will be refunded after. ;) Please email me your banking details.
