Trading Trouble

If you don't mind, please explain where I did not keep him in the loop?

As soon as the technician showed me the ding, I immediately phoned Lycanthrope.

As soon as I got home, I emailed him to reiterate what we had discussed as per our telephonic conversation.

Am I misinterpreting you as to where/when I should have kept him in the loop?

As I said, it SEEMED like you were not keeping him in the loop. And if that was not the case, then I said my comment should be disregarded.

Oh okay. Thought maybe I was missing something, as I appreciate the advice you have been giving.

Good night.

What do you mean i have not read the whole thread, i have.

Why won't you tell us your supplier? is it like a trade secret or something? There is no point telling everyone you are going to keep up to date with your supplier on the progress, its pretty simple no supplier in the world would replace a hdd that has phsyical damage nor would they believe that you or your client did not damage it. Basically you can forget about getting the drive swopped because that will never happen, why would they send it overseas for WD to look at, the drive has major damage which lead to the failure end of story.

Lycan from sounds of it bud, just let this go. Next time bud check the stuff you buy. Also next time don't give someone a drive plus 500 bucks for a hdd that costs 500 bucks :p.

"Us"? You're welcome to PM me to find out if you think it's necessary that you know. No trade secret at all.

I'm going to write out a letter of events as per Lycanthrope's description and huff and puff and plead as much as possible with the supplier. I will take pictures of the drive, it is an easily noticeable ding.

The WD drive does not cost R500, it costs over R600. Of course, it was not sensible for Lycanthrope to offer such a deal, and I understand he was probably just being nice and acting out of frustration/concern about Seagate drives. He did double check that I was willing to take it.

I'd love to see a picture of the drive.

I tried the PM approach, but got a complete refusal, so maybe it is a "trade secret". Let's see how long you continue trading in secret.

That is not the case. I am not inclined to discuss it with you considering our past problems which sprung out of my alerting mods of your troll-like behaviour (which several other forumites noticed too).

It's an excuse to keep your activities secret. We had an argument about your interfering pseudo-mod behaviour. Like a mature adult, I'd almost forgotten about it in fact. However, your attitude is clearly reflected in how you do business. In future, I recommend you keep your private PM trading business and your forum posts separate.

Sackboy : you have displayed troll like behaviour in multiple threads across multiple sections of this forum.

Please take your personal disagreements out of this issue, and PostmanPot is not required to disclose anything with you if he so chooses.

This is about dealing in parts via PM, which I don't consider very wise or healthy for the forum. If stating my opinion is trolling, then I suggest you invest in a new dictionary. You are welcome to use the ignore feature if you find that difficult, since you can't seem to resist stating your accusations over and over ad infinitum.

Keep his activities secret eh? Eish, someone's just bought the X-Files boxset I see. :D

I don't see how Postman's posts (see what I did there?) reflect anything other than him being an honest trader. There was a problem and he immediately came into the thread and explained how it would be dealt with. Your opinion of him is based on a personal spat you two have had so don't expect anyone to take your view of PP seriously.

I was just going through another forum's HDD section today and I can tell you there is a SEA of people that are frustrated that their drives are DOA, or that they were badly damaged in transit (this is in the US) and they're all having a hard time. Difference here is that PP will actually make sure this gets put right.

I have two things to say:
Firstly, I have dealt with PostmanPot and found him to be an exemplary reseller and I prefer to use his services when it is sensible. Secondly, and I'm talking to Lycanthrope now, you would be in the exact same position had you bought the drive from Take2/Sybaritic; they would have asked you to send the drive back, they would have sent it to the dealer etc. It would have been the same but slower, because they would not have done everything personally as PP has.

Sackboy,
How is dealing in parts not 'wise or healthy' for the forum? A PM is, as suggested by its name, private. Ergo, we are free to communicate as we wish with the PM system.

I appreciate your opinion - and I can see you've thought about it - however I didn't know he was dealing in computer parts until now. I'm quite able to take an impartial view of how someone trades. As I said, I hadn't even considering our spat as serious, and I responded as I would to anyone. Can you imagine if I walked into WW and asked them for a bunch of bananas and the guy said "You argued with me last week so I'm not serving you". It's ridiculous and unprofessional.

It isn't my forum, so let's open this up to the rest of the members. We can already see what can happen. You just need to read the tags for the thread "bad service, rip off, screwed, ...".

Point taken. Let's leave it at that. :)

Those tags are inaccurate. ;) He was not ripped off nor was he screwed, he just received a dud drive, happens every single day all over the world. Nothing special here.

I've had one or two problems - one with Take2 and one with Sybaritic in particular. BOTH sent out their couriers the exact same day I mentioned problems. With Sybaritic they never had a graphics card (my problem) in stock, so I had to wait two weeks for a replacement, and when I got one it was a better model than what I had - I was phenomenally impressed.

First off - it was my original understanding that had I not argued with PostmanPot, that he would only have picked up the dead drive, "On Friday, otherwise definitely Monday or Tuesday" mentioning - as he has before - that he would be "running at a loss" had he come to pick it up on Friday - which is what he ended up doing.

The fact that he also mentioned that it would cost him petrol, and that he was so eager to accept my offer to deduct petrol costs from my refund (if I were to be refunded) seriously dented any respect I could've had for him. This is - in my opinion - unprofessional.

The fact that I let him know about the drive at - what was it? 12:05? - on the same day that the drive arrived, and that he decided that I wasn't enough of a priority for him to pick it up that same day - also revealed a deep sense of lack of professionalism. At least that is how I felt and still feel.

Consider these my reasons for why I wanted to get as far away from him as possible and return to my preferred sellers.

Again - the above is merely my opinion and how I feel about this. I could be completely wrong about him, but eh... I've learned my lesson and won't make the same mistake again.

I believe that most shops have a, "Rights Reserved" sort of policy :o

Edit: @ feo - I removed the "ripped off" tag, since it was my suggestion to trade the R600 Seagate along with R500 for a R690(?) Western Digital. The rest remain as I have received bad service and I have been screwed - either by him, by his suppliers or by Western Digital.

I am eagerly awaiting for 09:00 come Monday morning. I will handle the situation on as much a personal level as possible, with all the integrity I have, and with the assertiveness that this situation requires. I will update everyone after I have updated Lycanthrope via email/MSN.

I've learned my lesson and won't make the same mistake again.

Lycan, buddy, the main thing you should learn from this is that you DON'T give away a perfectly good HDD and R500 in exchange for just one drive. :p

My vote goes to the supplier on this one.

Hehe... feo... When you know that at some point that drive might die, and you desperately want to use your computer without having to wait until the end of the month to buy another drive or to find a seller for that drive, you do what you can in the hopes of speeding up the process. At least that's what I felt... I needed a drive... Badly... Now I'm without R500, a Seagate (for which, btw, the new - and working - firmware has been released today) and my computer.

I was desperate, feo.
