TRENDnet = no good

Am using the the TRENDnet TEW-658BRM ADSL router atm.

My recommendation is to stay away from the latest firmware. It is very buggy and drops the wireless connection every now and then without reason. The previous version is solid as a rock.

I actually have a TP-Link TD-W8960N ADSL router as well, but these darn things reset several of the settings elsewhere on the router, if all you changed was the ISP login details.

I bought several of them and installed them for clients last year, and they all had this bug. Luckily for me the clients are only using one set of login details.

I went from a year with TrendNet to Asus recently. The Asus is just so much better in online gaming and stability. I can finall play FIFA 13 online with hardly any lag. With the TrendNet it was like a stop motion video.

I have also had problems with my TEW658BRM this last month (needed resetting numerous times per day). Called Mweb and had TELKOM guys at my place 3 times. I downloaded the FW update yesterday and its not been too bad since then. I dont know if I havent downloaded it correctly or what as it still wiil not let me change the date beyond 2012. If there is a Trendnet guy on the forum as I would appreciate some advice.
Problem is now solved. Trendnet replied and advised the following.
1. Log into router
2. Enter Setup
3. Click on time & date, select time zone, select enable
4. For the servers use the following addresses
5. 0.africa.pool.ntp.org
6. 1.africa.pool.ntp.org
7. Click Apply
It worked but what a palaver.

We used to have an older trendnet AP in my office which worked perfectly for a few years.
Lately all I have used are their mini IP based print servers and they have not given me any hassles at all.

A bit off topic, but I have been using some tenda and planet equipent lately. They seem quite reliable and are far cheaper than the more common alternative brands. Has anyone had any horror stories with either of these brands?

This whole thread is pretty much a horror story

The general consensus seems to be to pay a bit more to ensure you don't sit with issues later on. Funny you mention Tenda...I seem to recall seeing one that had random garbage when you try and select the time zone in the drop down list. Quality control with the Tenda units are poor, but then again, they are cheap as chips...

Totolink - they are very cheap and some of the best routers I have used. Their build quality and design is also remarkable. They are Korean.

Many thanks
