TRENDnet = no good

So far the new router is bringing me joy. I can honestly say that the fifth time I bougth TrendNet was the lucky one. Lets hope it lasts. Coverage with its fixed 2dbi aerials are the same as my dlink with 8dbi ones.

Could someone PLEASE HELP........ I purchased a TRENDnet TEW-655BR3G wireless router as well as a Huawei E367 dongle. I cannot seem to get them to connect, from what I understand, I need to do a 'Firmware' update on the Router in order to make the dongle compatible. PLEASE HELP>>>>>>>>

TEW-658BRM setup with telkom as ISP

Hi Beeeeezo
The exact opposite is happening with my TRENDnet ADSL/ Modem router TEW-635BRM.
The speeds are snail like and it keeps getting kicked off the internet. I suspect that this is due to some configuration issue but cannot quite put my finger on it and Telkom will not support me on this device.
During the installation of your router, did you use default settings or have you used custom settings.
If custom settings were used, which do I change to get this thing going.
Please advise

Regards

WOW, I can’t believe.

I have been a Linksys man all my life, until i purchased my TRENDnet ADSL/ Modem router TEW-635BRM, I have since purchased the TEW-658BRM this being the new 300Mbps Modem Router, and its by far the BEST device i have ever used in terms of Performance and coverage.
I am dying to try the TEW-691GR, this is the FIRST 450Mbps Router available on the market. I WANT ONE... Gigabit ports at the rear and 450Mbps upfront wireless-N.

Guys I will never look at D-Link its Crap.....Netgear/OK, Linksys/Good, TRENDnet /The BEST.

I am a big gamer and we have used several Wireless devices in the past, as you know we all bring our own Routers etc..... we tested a D-Link device against the TRENDnet 300Mbps wireless-n 658BRM (Modem Router) and the TRENDnet unit outperformed the D-Link by 47%...that’s just insane..

TRENDnet fan for life...wait for the 450Mbps,,,it should be here by now.....heeee haaaaa...

Maybe I should give some perspective from my side. I had the TEW-635BRM for a few weeks and it was cool, no issues at all. Upgraded the FW and it kept on being cool and stable. Then I decided to try the standalone ADSL modem setup and got a D-Link DSL-2500U with a TEW-691GR, also worked like magic.

So the newer TrendNETs seem to be OK.

I sold the TEW-691GR because I found a cheap TotoLink / Zoincomm / ipTime that did pretty much the same but cost less than a quarter of the price of the TEW-691GR.

I had the 652 for a while and it was ok. But rather get TP-Link, had no issues with them.

Holy crap I wish I'd seen this thread earlier. I bought a TRENDnet router about 6 months ago and have been having internet issues for the last while now. I've been crapping all over Telkom, thinking it's them, but I've finally figured out it's the router at fault. For the first few months the router worked fine, but for the last two or so, the problems have been endless. Connectivity just randomly drops several times a day and about twice every week the router simply 'forgets' all my settings. Just now I had to set it up all over again, because I suddenly lost internet connectivity and the router had reset itself.

I don't get a single day without this thing giving me problems. What a piece of junk. I've been using TP-Link routers since 2008, and only one failed me, which led me to try TRENDnet. Not even properly 6 months old and it's already crapping out? No thank you. Never again, TRENDnet. As cheap as TP-Link routers are, at least they last.

Edit: This is on the PEW-658BRM, in case anyone's wondering.

I have tried Trendnet every now and then and they are sometimes good, sometimes bad. What I can say though is that I have never had issues with TP-Link, D-Link or Toto-Link. In fact I have seen TP-Link and Toto-Link routers with uptime value in excess of 100 days.

TRENDnet is IMO a waste of money.
I have endless hassles and need to reboot at least once a day sometimes 3 -5 times.
Replaced my Netgear after memory/setting loss at where I bought the Netgear - Incredible Connection and I was told this is the best and the equivalent replacement boy was I suckered into this piece of crap and it was also about 35% more expensive than at other places at the time.

Neither TRENDnet nor Incredible Connection will ever see me again.

Correct me if I am wrong. But the only reason anyone buys these is because its dirt cheap. Clearly for a reason.

So which TP-Link N300 should one get if they are looking to not spend a whole lot of cash?

PS: My TrendNet 658 needs replacing.

I bought one. It resets itself twice a day at random times for no good reason.

Goedkoop is duurkoop and all that. I won't buy another TRENDnet product ever again.

Junk.

I can luckily say that my experience with TRENDnet has been a good one so far (touch wood)

I am running a TEW-639GR at the moment at a client and so far I have had to not reset it once in the two or so years I have had it running there. But it does seem like these devices are awfully hit and miss at the best of times :(

After reading this I would be scared to recommend these units to people as so many guys here are having serious issues with their units. Are they improving on their quality since this thread was started back in 2011?

Thanks for the warning was also looking into some trendnet equipment. But will rather look at something else.

I have also had problems with my TEW658BRM this last month (needed resetting numerous times per day). Called Mweb and had TELKOM guys at my place 3 times. I downloaded the FW update yesterday and its not been too bad since then. I dont know if I havent downloaded it correctly or what as it still wiil not let me change the date beyond 2012. If there is a Trendnet guy on the forum as I would appreciate some advice.

just pay the extra R100 and buy something that actually works

Correct me if I am wrong. But the only reason anyone buys these is because its dirt cheap. Clearly for a reason.

At IC it was dam expensive. One of my worst purchases. Conned into it as a replacement for lighting damaged Netgear. R1800 +-.
