Trouble with disassembly hpdv6000

did not remove it. the black piece and silver piece are attached to the fan unit.

Then don't bother. I'm still not sure where this paste was located, first you said on top and now you are saying underneath.

i meant the plate on the top in the pic. its the silver one. checking the web for more info about it. thx for your help.

Only once the GPU has died, that is. And by all accounts many of them have, I think we are lucky if ours are still running by all accounts.

Fan cleanup is good, have not done mine yet, it seems okay but then has not been used that much in it's life.

I put the notebook back together last night. Was working fine except 1GB ram was not being recognised. So I cleaned out the slot and terminals on the chip and let them dry. Put it on tonight and got a blank screen. Looks like I have to do the reflow trick. Have to get a burner and take the notebook apart again :banghead:

Maybe just a loose/bad connection somewhere after you removed the RAM, Best to check that first before resorting to extreme measures.

yeah will check it again. the ram is a quick replacement so I'm doubting its that but you never know. the reflow trick will take some time to do. so i rather check cables etc like you suggested.

Removed the ram, wiped the terminals, replaced them. It's working again. Ffs :what:
