TV

the facts speak for themselves

anyone telling me that SD tv DOESNT look better on a Plasma vs LCD (same level, perhaps 100hz) is talking out of his a$$

no offense Pooky

:D

Well I will look again today and let you know.

I saw what I saw though.

Another fanboi. Until you've tested all the TVs (i.e. all plasma and all LCD), you can't make that claim.

Getting kinda tired of this LCD bashing...

It is surprising seeing as he has had a plasma all of what two weeks?

Who cares about testing all the plasmas and all the LCDs. HTC_guy was very clear in his post, perhaps you need to re-read? Fact is that a R6000 plasma vs R6000 LCD, plasma will win at SD TV. Fact. If the LCD wins, it's because the plasma had a poorer source. Or yeah, there could have been some fairy dust sprinkling involved.

dude im not bashing LCD's. They have their pro's no doubt.

plasma is more forgiving on a SD signal, thats the bottom line here. I'm sure you do get the much more expensive LCD's that will look better, but then you not comparing apples with apples. thats all Im saying...

matter of fact Ive always preferred LCD, that why I went with LCD looooong time ago (ok wasnt that long, was about 2 and 1/2 years). I remember thinking to myself at the time, why does my sport look so k@k  compared to my mates plasma... Only now that I have a plasma I understand better what its all about.

last night I loaded up a 350mb greys episode and I was flabbergasted at what it looked like on such a big screen

so I guess I have been converted, but again, each have their pro's and con's

I can list some pro's of LCD's if you like? :D

So in order to tell which is better at SD, one must own the plasma/LCD for more than 2 weeks. Oh LOL.

Yeah, after those 2 weeks, the TV source is obviously going to be changing, as will our eyes' functionality.

:D

One thing that I haven't seen addressed - how do you guys suppose the plasma would hold up under gaming (seeing that he will be using it for Xbox)? I would imagine that it could be a bit annoying to stop and refresh every couple of hours to prevent burn-in. Or have the burn-in issues been largely sorted out?

generally ppl are into a specif genre... If you into RTS that might be a problem?

The plasma would be epic for gaming, due to faster response time and better blacks.

They have been largely sorted out, in that these days burn-in is almost non-existent. If anything there will only be image retention, which is sorted out after changing channel/source/using the image sweeper.

As forumites have said recently, they game on their plasmas for hours, and watch DVDs with black bar letter boxing, with no problems at all.

In any case, cut scenes and other cinematics where the static console/health bars etc. get a chance to have a break, are enough to prevent retention.

That's not the problem. Many games have fixed status indicators that don't change position (health bars, ammo, etc.).

Good to hear :)

Well, IMHO, I saw the equivalent 50" Samsung plasma the other day and it blew me away relative to the FHD LCD Sony's and Samsungs. I was dead keen in buying a FHD LDC, but after what I saw I'm all confused now. THe picture quality was staggering.

And really, the only way you'd really get the proper FHD experience is with a BR movie, or playstation/xbox. They dont and probably wont ever broadcast 1080p signals for TV shows on dstv, the bandwidth is just too much. So you gotta way up the odds...will you ever get to experience your FHD LCD properly at 1080p? If not, then I think a quality HDready TV is fine.

Only thing that scares me is whether a resolutions of 1365 x 768 is enough on those larger TV's, like the 50" Samsung plasma?! It looked amazing though.

Dude, pass me whatever you're smoking, or give me your optometrist's details!

Bwahaha just kidding. Obviously we know the plasma rocks socks off. I just love all the positive remarks people are saying about plasmas these days on this forum. Eish, gotta be hard being a LCD fanboi.

Do you need full HD? Do you understand that from viewing distance it's almost impossible to tell the difference between FHD and HD? Then no, you will be fine with HD Ready/720p plasma.

;)

Your eyes won't see a difference between those resolutions. My resolution on my Sammy is 1024 x 768, yet the quality blows my mind completely.

dude im running a native res of 1024x768 on my 42". Believe me its not an issue.

I think if you wanna have your screen plugged in to your PC all day long, then thats gonna be annoying coz its definitely better to have 1920x1080 for a PC screen... but comes down to needs hey! :)

Damn 50" must be big!
