I'm already running compiz with the --loose-binding option, which was the suggestion after some googling.

I have watched the output of top while dragging, minimizing windows, and the CPU does not spike
On another machine I have, compiz runs fine on even an onboard Intel GMA3000.

Forgot to mention, Aero runs like a bat out of hell on this card. It has 512MB dedicated memory, powering a 17" 1920x1200 screen.

Try updating to the latest nvidia restricted drivers if you have not already done so.

Just to check... Please paste the output of
Code:
dpkg --get-selections | grep nvidia

Will do in a sec. I just had some success (seems like a massive speedup now):
In the compizconfig-settings-manager under the general section, there is a display settings tab. I switched off the auto detect refresh rate option, and manually set it to 60hz (which is what nvidia-settings reported). Seems ok so far. Found it after more googling.

I can tell you what the problem is with Compiz- the new Nvidia graphics drivers does not yet fully support Compiz and another thingy. So it might work or it might work a bit or it might not work at all.

The issue I have with the new nvidia drivers is that my display won't wake up from sleep sometimes...

My sound is perfect...

Thanks froot I almost thought my questions is going to disappear in the darkness of the pages hehe.

Then I have 2 problems so far my sound quality sucks and when I restarts it does not restart and goes into like a blank screen and where I can type but no commands where there so I have to hard reset. hmmm

+ mouse that's all freaking out.

What about the sound sucks? Is it slow? Try using a different sampling rate.

Okay after a few searchers got new codecs and that seems to sort out the problem. The sound sounded like one of those old records.

Also search the repos for themes, launch synaptic and type 'theme'. Enable restricted resources to get a greater selection.

Wonder if this is happening to anyone of you: My screen will start to blink every 30s or so. As if it's...blinking at me? It will blink once (goes black and come back on but so quick that it looks like a blink) and then it will wait 30 odd seconds or so and then it will blink again! I've told it numerous times that I don't play that game and I'm not swinging that way so he can forget about making eyes at me, but without success! What could be the problem? Do you think it's driver related or does my PC have a stupid crush on me?

Don't have that problem myself, sounds weird maybe try an update? I'm on the newer kernel after yesterday's update...
