What inspires?

At the time I bought the Mac Pro it was actually cheaper than a similarly equipped Xeon powered DELL.

Secondly, the Mac does not crash, or very rarely, only when I had 2 GB of bad RAM in it. It's also very fast for rendering. I save in not having to buy an AV suite for it for the last 2 years. I also saved because Leopard cost me under R1000 while Vista would have cost - R3500? Leopard actully increased the multiprocessing speed
of my Mac, while Vista would have cost a drop in my PC's performance.

Thirdly, it runs better software than the PC. The OS is better, the Final Cut Studio Program beats Adobe Premiere and Vegas. FCP is the best NLE out there short of Avid Media Composer. By the way the Premiere Pro suite is more expensive than FCS 2.

Have you actually used FCP? or Premiere or Vegas? I have. And FCP beats up the other 2. The system is still fast and scales well for full HD editing and effect rendering too. It's a great system. It's resale value is also good, I could sell this Mac Pro for 75% of the purchase price, try that with a PC
after 2 years. I can also upgrade the Xeon CPUs, if I so wish, the mobo supports it.

At the end there is the pain of Windows or the ease of use of the Mac. You save time and you get to do other things instead of messing around with the registry, anti-malware programs and Windows glitches, not to mention inferior software.

You know why drive a better car? Why not drive a Toyota Tazz or a Citi Golf?
Better can also mean 'more fuel efficient' - but not necessary with more junk on the hubcaps, spoilers and
useless decals.

My No 1 reason for the Mac purchase was Final Cut Pro. :)

Linux is a good OS too. From my limited experience and reading various websites and reviews/comments
Linux based OS'es are superior to Windoze, if you don't play the latest games.

Haha age old question is this the year of the Linux desktop? I think that question is going to be asked for several more years to come. :D :cool:

Neither does my PC crash and I have elcheapo RAM in it, it renders stuff fast also. AVG is free and does not only check for virii but also tells you which websites might be malicous.

I have windows XP and 7 and both are much more joy than a Mac can give you (since they can run a lot more stuff). Mac is very unpopular thus no one bothers with writing virii for it - not to mention software. It costs a crap load too. It looks gay.

But hey, if you are all that and need to play in a sandboxed environment, enjoy it, just don't get mad when normal people point and stare or make fun of you and your cutie teenie weenie OS :p

Did you know that AMD Athlon is so 2004-5? Intel Core >>> AMD Athlon.

No viruses for the Mac. My inbox gets scanned by MWEB anyway but besides that no malware unless I install an actual dodgy Trojan horse which you could do on a PC too and your AV scanner won't know about it.

I can also run Win in a virtual machine, I can run it in bootcamp and I can
run Mac OSX. I can use all your apps plus apps you can't use.

Security through obscurity has been disproven. Unix based OS'es work differently to Windoze. Windoze is inherently vulnerable and with the significant percentage of Macs out there, you'd at least see a couple viruses
for the Mac in the wild.

LOL, you kidding me? It's Vista and 7 with it's new graphics (Aero) and useless eye-candy. I run my Win XP machines in Classic Win2K effects mode with no BS either and my Mac has no screen effects - have you actually used a Mac?

but seriously..seriously peter why whould you need a xeon proccessor, just for video editing? and why on earth did you consider a dell..to scared to build your own (at a fraction of a fraction of the price of your mac, trust me)...no I think its neither I think you are just one of those spoilt kids who saw the nice shinny mac, with its "barbie OS" and found it easier just asking mommy for it.
I built myself a 32k computer now, and I can promise you my skulltrain setup whould put your mac cream pie to shame at all of that. not that I can be bothered about videos...there I'm with rouxenator and will stick to old fashioned youtube
 
Oh yeah - I forgot - you cannot build your own Mac. Thats gay too.

My PC is worth less than 5K and it love it, it does everything fast. I don not have to run VMs or KampStaalBoot on it - just Windows XP SP3. Much more joys than any Mac could give me and I get to put more cash into my homeloan.

Mmmm, I want the latest Adobe CS4 Web Premium package.... maybe I should steal it. It's only ±R25000, I don't think Adobe would mind. Autocad is also very interesting. R50000? That's not really stealing, now is it?

I must admit though I do find it strange that you refer to people using Linux as "freetards" when you're happy to pirate software. Does your fanboi hypocrisy know no limit. :rolleyes:
