At what point do you consider linux to be growing? 1% a year? 2% year?

Mac used a Xeon cpu because if it used a normal core 2 duo it would be no better than a pc, using a xeon makes it seem less like a pc which mac basically is these days.

I have XP SP3 and W7 64bit - both are excellent. But even something like Windows 2000 still has a few tricks up its sleeve that Linux cannot do, not even if they take it to release Lameass Lama or right down to Zonked-up Zebra.

Linux is pretty cool to mess around with but the latest version of ubuntu i install looks really old and out-dated, someone mentioned i could make it look nicer, any tips on how i go about doing that?

Sure a nice looking OS is not the most important thing but when you go from vista to ubuntu you notice how old and out-dated it is really fast , even xp looks horrible compared to vista , win7 looks about as good as vista

Thanks for making our point. Linux == affordable. You can get a free distro (saving the cost of the OS), and it will run on lower-end hardware (saving you from having to have a minimum of 2GB RAM).

Did you know that AMD Athlon is so 2004-5? Intel Core >>> AMD Athlon.

No viruses for the Mac. My inbox gets scanned by MWEB anyway but besides that no malware unless I install an actual dodgy Trojan horse which you could do on a PC too and your AV scanner won't know about it.

Security through obscurity has been disproven. Unix based OS'es work differently to Windoze. Windoze is inherently vulnerable and with the significant percentage of Macs out there, you'd at least see a couple viruses
for the Mac in the wild.

hey now... I use a macbook, yes many times I think too myself F*** this I'm getting myself a good netbook (with Linux) for a good price rather than spend R16000 for a 13' macbook but truth be told I love my mac even though I know better.

killa, it is growing. The fact that guys like you are even trying it out is proof of that. 5 years ago, only the so-called elite were using Linux. 5 years before that, few people even knew what it was. But today, it's getting easier and easier to run Linux.

Bear in mind that the true purpose of Linux isn't to push itself on everyone out there and become the ONLY viable operating system. It also has no wish to become a free Windows. It has its own purpose, and its own goals. It's developed by the people who will actually use it.

AMD is better than Intel (Dell and Apple use intel ). The key to being the best OS is to run the application that the biggest majority of users have. That be windows binaries, ReactOS does that without getting drunk on wine. It is a free and open copy of Windows. Which is all we need.
