Ubuntu bets on desktop sparkle

Woohoo long live Ubuntu.

I just wish I could sort out my wifi issues with 8.10 :p

drool.
will try to install on my ext HDD and boot from there ... when I get time :-)

Yar because ubuntu looks like something microsoft release in the early 40's :p

Hope they make it shiny and beautiful :), not bland and off-putting but atleast its free so bland and off putting is all good :p

such blasphemy

+1
The only way of comparing a M$ system to Linux is as follows: Linux > M$

I can't wait for 9.04.... hopefully the network issues in KDE4 will be sorted out though. It's time they upgraded the Gnome side of things... it's looked almost exactly the same for as long as I can remember (which was with Ubuntu 4.x still....)

I thought they did? Try YDL they seemed to have solved the issue or so they claim!

PS: Just funny how the members claim how good Linux performs by hailing Linux just to wish in the second sentence that some of the Linux inherent problems may get solved, that is the same "problems" that does not exist in Windows(7) fpr ages. LOL WiFi just works in Windows7, alike mouse and Keyboard. Part of the inherent system.

i always find it strange how people find the default OS look such an important thing. Both Windows and Linux have so many ways to change the desktop look that it really is a moot point.

What's a bug got to do with performance? An F1 car is really fast. Just because it struggles to go over a speed bump doesn't make it suck.

The final problem I had was that my wireless network adapter didn't seem to be working.

Agreed. And if you don't like how Gnome looks by default and are too lazy to change it, don't use Gnome. I, for one, happen to like the default theme in Ubuntu. And it's not like changing themes is ANY harder than changing themes in other desktop environments. Download, import, done.

I am Penguin.... I think I should call myself Redmond and troll a few Microsoft threads, just for fun. :D

On the other hand, I have much better things to do with my time. ;)

Alternative OS users are like Wine Connoisseurs. We drink the Antenatti di Manduria 1996, while the conformists drink Tassenberg. ;)

i rarely understand why people make such comparisons. make your OS choice and live with it. why force your choice on others or try to make it seem superior?

your reasons work for you. i can understand why you might ask someone whether paying R2000+ for an MS OS and Office Suite for basic use is money well spent. but to try force it down their throats that your opinion is that they are making he wrong choice, probably makes you seem like a zealot.

use your OS and be happy with it. Linux users should not be concerned about numbers as historically it lived with far fewer numbers.

I couldn't resist. I use both Windoze and Mac OSX and have used Linux occasionally.
Whichever tool's better for the job I say, but of course, as the EU have said,
M$ stiffled innovation and increased consumer costs by their anti-competitive behaviour. Kudos for the EU for doing ONE thing right.
