Uncapped ADSL prices compared

You get what you pay for with uncapped.

I hate these articles comparing price, but they never compare shaping or throttling limits.

Uncapped has been cheap enough for a while now. We need quality connections. That's why you see so many of us on business accounts. Me included.

+1 Price should only be ONE of the components when comparing these and not the ONLY one. The article would carry so much more weight if we had more to work with than just the price.

I must say that I have tried pretty much all the uncapped offerings on the market and found Openweb to be the best with regard to their unshaping after hours. Yes, Openweb shape during the day but after hours and over weekends it is a joy. There is nothing that irks me more than being shaped after hours when I need the bandwidth for streaming my Apple TV, gaming and some downloads. Yes, I am looking at you Afrihost.

I moved from Afrihost to Telkom last month because my 4mb ADSL uncapped was throttled/shaped (whatever) so bad that torrents during the day where downloading at 12kB/s. Telkom started off and performed better but soon deteriorated. I cancelled Telkom and was going back to Afrihost 75+75GB capped account. As soon as I cancelled with telkom (a day later) torrents during the day started coming down at 250 - 380kB/s and I thought, yeah soon as I cancel everything speeds up, I was going to carry on with purchasing 75+75Gb capped with Afrihost, having none of telkom's BS. A lady from telkom called me yesterday wanting to know why I was cancelling and is there anything she could do to persuade me not to cancel. I told her the story and she span me a tail that top telkom management is dedicated to getting high speeds to it's customers and there must have been a fault and it was coincident that speeds increased once I cancelled. It's 10am Friday and my torrent is coming in at 238kB/s. So with the discount you gave me as a sweetener, I will stay with you telkom. I hope the ISP's read this, because Afrihost you lost me through crap speeds during the day and telkom you will lose me if you go back to crap speeds.

Does anyone know which of these ISPs allow 2 simultaneous connections?

My current account with Internet Solutions allows 2 simultaneous connections, which is perfect for using the same account at the office and at home. However, Internet Solutions has recently started throttling their bandwidth to the point where it's unusable for any non-HTTP traffic, so I'm quite keen on switching to another ISP.

You do know your star rating falls a lot faster when connected with two connections rather than 1 - you can check this with.

As far as I know, only IS uncapped accounts allow for 2 connections (this excludes IS accounts created by ISP's such as Web Africa and OpenWeb which allow for 1 connection.)

How much data do you use? If it's not too much you may want to consider going for a capped product which won't throttle you from star ratings and would allow simultaneous concurrent connections.

Im considering openweb but I havent tried them. I dont care about throttling during working hours. I am just concerned on the performance after hours and on weekends.

I am currently on Afrihost. Can anyone give me a fair comparison between the two? Because it seems that the price you pay for a 4meg uncapped with Afrohost, you can have a 10meg with Open web. Thats 2.5 times faster! Is this too good to be true, or value for money?

Openweb shape more during the day, but Openweb flies after hours.

What star rating on openweb is this? I thought that was Web Africa? I just submitted a cancelation request to openweb because a speedtest shows 3.3mb yet I can't even load up their homepage...

I'm sure as hell not paying a premium for "gold" uncapped to not even be able to browse (or to turn my router on and off all day either).

You do know the proper procedure is to contact support when you have an issue right?

MWeb should be removed from this list, their products are not really uncapped any more.

I have their 10mb uncapped. It is certainly uncapped. Never had a problem

Oh, so now you're denying it. Well done.

Well, you seem to be accusing me of being shill without any proof. Pretty similar to me accusing you of being child molester without any proof

OpenWeb, don't expect to open anything during the day. Even a 1MB email would take 10 minutes to download.

Ok I didn't want to do this but you forced my hand. This here is the latest deposit slip proving all the allegations.
