Uncapped ADSL throttling not cool reckons MWEB

I have been very happy with MWEB's service, ever since I switched to uncapped. The throttling is barely noticeable, but that's probably because I'm at work all day.

My only gripe has been their pricing on the 2 mbps uncapped - they are more expensive than most other ISP's and I think that many people may have switched because of this. Perhaps that's what's behind this article.

I know there are some BIG downloaders out there, but I think that the majority of people won't use that much more data on a 2 mbps line than they do on 1 mbps. The additional speed, however, makes for a much nicer experience so I am sure people would upgrade if the price was right.
 
The article states that mweb does not shape YouTube, but I've read elsewhere on this forum that they do?
Anyone with any experience with this?

On my 2 meg line, 720p buffers like crazy and is unwatchable, although lower resolutions play
without buffering.

If I'm not mistaken you need about 4mbps to stream 720p flawlessly. On a 2mbps line I would be surprised if anything beyond standard definition plays smoothly.

I'm sure that you are correct, but I've heard that 720p buffers even on 4Mbps lines, maybe shaping?

Wheter it buffers I am not sure, I use FastestTube download on YouTube and videos are always downloaded at max speed. Most of the times the videos come straight from the Mweb proxy in Johannesburg.

You are not going to get a better YouTube experience anywhere else.

I am having major issues with MWeb. Downloads are at 10% of line speed. I spent last night on Youtube, and must say, it is a painful experience. 4 months ago I could watch Youtube HD clips without any buffering. Now I cannot even watch a SD clip without it having to buffer. Luckily, I only have 2 weeks left of my probation, then I am a free man! This month nkotice thing is driving me nuts.

I'm sure you've complained about things on this forum and other platforms before.

Why must others now cease voicing their opinions, regardless of whether they move to another ISP or not? What makes this situation so special?

Considering that MWEB are actually breaking promises, this is one of those situations where vocal objection should be encouraged, not suppressed.

Why should MWEB be afforded any more social protection? I'm yet to see a logical reasoning for this...
 
I wasn't particularly unhappy with my MWEB account, but I left when they sucked up most of the Telkom discount. I'm paying less with Openweb now at the same quality.
