Under The Dome

What's annoying me is the army outside the dome aren't at all interested at what's happening inside. That scene where they're spraying water onto the dome and it leaks through onto the kids hand - not at all interested. But maybe that's part of some cool twist...and maybe episode 3 is better than episode 2, because it was rather lame.

I'm pretty sure inside can see out, but outside cannot see in.

First episode the killer dude shows the fire brigade the handwritten sign to call the FAA and there were other scenes where people put their hands together with someone on the outside. I got the impression that people outside could see in, and actually - on the news broadcast they show a view outside the dome where you can see the helicopters flying around outside the dome, and you can see the town inside the dome. So I dunno it's more like they're a holographic projection or something or they've been told specifically not to engage with those inside the dome, for whatever reason.

Ahaa. I've obviously not been paying attention...

Why? What were you guys expecting?

I found the script to be rather forced in a misdirection that was inevitably cheesy. I cannot see the fire forming an integral part of the longer arc of the story, yet most of the episode was dedicated to it and its rather pathetic dousing. The show began its own self immolation at that point for me, but I'll give it one or two more episodes before sending it to the ashes.

All that was revealed in that episode was that a clichéd "bad reverend" is in on the propane arc of the story and he also happens to be immune to fire. Once under a dome, one would expect there to be some intimate character development as opposed to forced action for the sake of it. It feels like another "The Following". Great storyline opportunities - poor script management. And let's not get into the fire in the dirt-bin that looked as if it was animated with MS Paint screenshots...

To those riled by it not keeping "true" to the book, surely that makes it less predictable and therefore a little more entertaining. Surely the point is to keep to the spirit and arc of the book, and not the precise plot-points?

As someone who read the book, and has watched (could not force my way through more) 3/4 of episode one, they have gotten it so badly wrong character-wise, and changed essential elements of the plot to an extent that I have no desire whatsoever to watch further.

What a ****ing pity.

Thx for the heads up, will give it a pass

Oh :( Was looking forward to watch the pilot episode. Thanks for the heads-up.

I wouldn't consider Copas opinion. If its good on its own terms then why not.
Why must a series always follow a character from a book to the t.

Yes, of course - If you want to try it, try it.

If you dig it, no harm done.

I still highly recommend the book though - It's ****ing fantastic.

*edit*

I must say though, that the reason the show should have followed the book is because the great thing about the book were the characters, and what made them interesting was clearly expunged from the show for politically correct reasons (don't want to give anything away).

The plot itself could totally be modified to suit a TV program - That's okay - But to change the essence of what made the book tick?

+1. As I've said before on this thread and others, it's the characters which made this book something special and is the reason I've held off and won't be watching the show.

I'm sure I'd enjoy it on tv as I'm a bit of a post-apocalyptic/dystopia type genre fan, but I don't want to spoil the memories of the characters which outshone the wafer thin plot and made the book one of my all time favourites.

The series or movie is never ever as good as the book, just because you cannot convey certain info visually as per your imagination. I watched the first two episodes last night, it was good entertainment while I was busy playing on my ipad.

Have you read any Jeff Lindsay?

Started reading the book after watching the first few episodes. The books so far is better, has more detail and makes Junior to be an even bigger ahole

I stopped after episode 3. Is it getting better & worth watching or is is still a bunch of boring people without any real concern for fact that they're stuck under a freaking dome!?

1 or second episode Spoiler:
I thought the cop who died right at the start was one of the better characters tbh. He had a cool look about him. Pity he went out so early.

I can't take much more of this honestly. Poor acting. Poor production. Poor script. Everything seems rushed with very little post production or review.

1) Shooting a bullet at a dome 50m away, yet it bounces back at exactly the same angle, hitting the chest of the guy standing next to you???
2) Touching a doorknob which is too hot to handle, yet still kicking the door down as if there wouldn't be a raging inferno behind it???
3) ^There wasn't actually any flame behind it!^
4) Let me stand next to this burning glass door because I know it won't shatter.

I had big expectations for this series, and will probably continue to watch it because I like the concept. However, I will always watch Bates Motel and Newsroom first. :)
