Under The Dome

To those riled by it not keeping "true" to the book, surely that makes it less predictable and therefore a little more entertaining. Surely the point is to keep to the spirit and arc of the book, and not the precise plot-points?

By making it a series, they are obviously only going to use the premise and a rough character outline, so it makes sense that it's not going to follow the book which had a definite start, middle and end. For me the storyline was always a bit suss anyway, and the ending was a bit.....well, odd. What made the book brilliant was the characters and how their personalities and true characters came out in adversity, but they are never going to recreate SKs portrayals on the screen so yeah, I can't imagine it remaining true to the book for long.

So I watched the pilot episode last night. Pretty cool. Nothing wow about it. But will see what the next few episodes bring

Watched the 1st episode this weekend...and while I was looking forward to the show, I kinda felt meh after the first episode. Guess I should see where this will be going, but for now it doesn't completely stand out, although there is some mystery, not sure if it will keep me hooked.

Grabbed episode 2 this morning. Will have a look later, time permitting

I've read the book & I'm disappointed. This is made for people that won't read the book. I will follow the series, but I'm no longer exited about it. :(

The fire scene is so lame & the buckets, there is hardly any water in them.

Maybe I should pick up and read Lord Of The Rings. Apparently totally different as well.

I read the Lord of the Rings books after watching the movies. The movies are good unlike something like GoT but still not better than the books as is usually the case with such epic stories. The books have more detail than the movies for obvious reasons that a movie can only be so long.

Damn HTPC is off at home, now I'll only be able to start the download when I get home

For that reason I have set my httpc to boot up if power goes off. So if the power trips and then comes back on the pc boots up automatically.

I took it one step further. Got some old UPS's that were gonna chucked out, they use the same 12v batteries most alarms systems do, so replaced them batteries to get the UPS's cheaper. Now, my HTPC and ADSL router and switch is on UPS power, with the UPS programmed to shutdown the PC when battery is low, and if power come back on, UPS will turn itself back on and tell the PC to turn on.

The good, short power outages the downloads and everything keeps going, only longer power outages now affects me :)

And I took it a step further :)

Tedelex inverter with 2 deep cycle batteries. Keeps my ADSL and server up for almost 2 days.
