If you had ever planned any kind of military operation you would know that your greatest advantage comes from surprise. You don't go cutting comms links a few weeks before attacking, to give the enemy time to make alternative arrangements, now do you?
Actually you cut secure comm links, so as to force the opponent to use simpler links.
Then again, if you have some dollars to spend, any Tom,Dick or Harry, could get one, with a little customising, voila 1 cable cutter.

Fairly simple.
...the Navy is deep into a five-year, $1 billion retrofit of the USS Jimmy Carter, a nuclear-powered vessel that intelligence experts say will be the premier U.S. spy sub when it hits the seas in 2004. Among its many planned features, says one former official familiar with the project: state-of-the-art technology for undersea fiber-optic taps.
....Carter has additional maneuvering devices fitted fore and aft that will allow her to keep station over selected targets in odd currents. Past submarines that were so outfitted were used to place listening devices on undersea cables and listen on communications of foreign countries.... The MMP may also be used as an underwater splicing chamber for tapping of undersea fiber optic cables....
but as Nanfeishen said... it DOES force them to use less secure methods of communication.
Force who?
nations in that area?...iran /UAE/ ppl with 'resources' of interest to the ppl who are cutting the cables... or so the theory goes.
What exactly is the theory?
Cut off iran's under-sea cables so that they will have to access in internet through satellites which can be monitored? All that so someone can read regular joe's email in iran and check what youtube videos they are watching?
[source]A bourse is a, typically European, word which refers to a stock exchange. Great, so Iran is going to have their own “oil stock exchange,” but why does this matter? The Iranian oil bourse was going to be a stock market for petroluem, petrochemicals and gas. What’s the big catch here? The exchange planned on being ran with currencies excluding the U.S. dollar. If you remember from earlier in the post, Iran stopped allowing purchases of their oil with the U.S. dollar in December of 2007. So, obviously, the U.S. is not going to be happy about this. The biggest piece of information linking this to the recent damages is the proposed location of the bourse: the island of Kish. This is the island that is RIGHT NEXT TO at least two of the cuts that have recently occurred:
yes. GW Bush wants to know how many people are watching the latest 'daft punk-harder faster fan made video'
no man...if u read the news...ud know that the Iranian Oil Bourse was dude to launch this month.

Now once again... this is JUST a theory. but its the only 1 that makes sense with all the factors that are running around.
I know there are people here that think im sitting with a tin-foil hat on waiting for the real moonlanding to take place... but from what i've read...i aint found any evidence dismissing these things. if they are all coincidences ... its pretty random for them to all happen here...now.
again MY opinion is that this is what is going on.
....Is there honestly a single scrap of evidence (or even a hint of possible, rumored evidence) that the US was involved somehow?
is there a scrap of evidence that its not?
i think that those do raise some questions @ least...else u on the boat that thinks that these are ALL the fault of a boat in a storm?
rofl
Last I checked there wasn't evidence of anything yet. It is just comical how prejudiced people, such as yourself, immediately start jumping up and down and blaming the US.
I honestly think it was Ivy....
She doesn't like the idea of any cables on this planet not being 50% South African owned...

well thats just it. there is no evidence that it ISNT this. thats why this thread is ASKING a question...and im giving my opinion that i think that these events are way to close to something to be totally random.
its the 'prejudiced people' (as u call them) like me that dont take everything ur told as fact....until its proved.
