Undersea Cable Cutting: Prelude to War?

No its prejudiced people like you who jump to conclusions without any facts. There is absolutely no evidence or logical reason to associate the US with this in anyway, yet here you guys are blaming them for all kinds of subterfuge. The american's make enough stupid mistakes, I don't think we have to blame them for every random thing that happens as well.

You may as well blame it on the NWO lizard men or aliens.

sigh.

but you are jumping 2 the conclusion that my conclusion is bogus without giving me facts to prove yours?

This is what i understand.:

1) All these cuts have happened in a close amount of time
2) All have happened in the immediate area around the middle east
3) Iran was going to launch the oil exchange this month that would cut the US dollar from use and therefor devalue the dollar more.
4) The states are already looking to secure more resources in the middle east to fuel their war/and their economy which is failing badly. they also have made it know that they want to go into Iran
5) the story that a ship in a storm dragging its anchor from Egypt to Malaysia is total bull. (no1 has proved this yet)
6)FINALLY i started saying that this was MY OPINION from the reading that i have done...and im simply trying to help people LOOK what could be happening right under their noses.

again...from what i read...the only explanations that make sense are the ones that im putting forward. if you dont like what im saying thats kewl...but dont call me 'prejudiced' just because i want to look deeper into something that smells off to me.

EDIT: last post on the matter. if it turns out to be a rogue anchor that caused all this, great. i freaking hope im wrong... because if its not that -

'random' as a word, doesn't explain 8 or 9 undersea cable cuts, that oddly affect an entire region - except for 'Israel' and 'US occupied Iraq' . As well as the mass media's quiet ignoring of the fact that its been stated by the relevant maritime authorities, that no ships were in the affected areas when the cables were cut.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist, to see that 'random' is not an adequate word.

Lets see what tune you are singing in a few months time shall we?

It's the jihadis damit. There's no place for the internet in their vision of a return to the dark ages

My theory is that it was caused by suicide bombers with weight-belts

icyrus, I guess you're a 'coincidence theorist'.

The idea that 8 or 9 undersea cables have been cut, affecting a specific region of the world, which has NEVER happened before, is just coincidence?

You prefer to ignore the official word from authorities whose job it is to watch over the shipping in those areas, saying there were no ships that were in the area and which could have been responsible?

Ditto ignoring the oddity of the two countries which weren't affected, in the whole region.

Instead, you think some airy line "Lets see what tune you are singing in a few months time shall we?" is of value to this discussion, how?

Sorry that you're focused on singing little songs to yourself, I'm focused on the verifiable facts, and drawing (possible erroneous) conclusions from the evidence that's visible.

Keep singing little songs to yourself, and when you want to actually debate anything, rather 'make an actual point' - preferably with links to back up your statements. (After all, this is News and Current Affairs, which does require that you weigh in with facts, if you don't accept what someone's saying).

CAIRO -- Damage to undersea Internet cables in the Mediterranean that hit business across the Middle East and South Asia was not caused by ships, Egypt's communications ministry said on Sunday, ruling out earlier reports.

The transport ministry added that footage recorded by onshore video cameras of the location of the cables showed no maritime traffic in the area when the cables were damaged.

"The ministry's maritime transport committee reviewed footage covering the period of 12 hours before and 12 hours after the cables were cut and no ships sailed the area," a statement said.

"The area is also marked on maps as a no-go zone and it is therefore ruled out that the damage to the cables was caused by ships," the statement added.

Two cables were damaged earlier this week in the Mediterranean sea and another off the coast of Dubai, causing widespread disruption to Internet and international telephone services in Egypt, Gulf Arab states and South Asia.

A fourth cable linking Qatar to the United Arab Emirates was damaged on Sunday causing yet more disruptions, telecommunication provider Qtel said.

Earlier reports said that the damage had been caused by ships that had been diverted off their usual route because of bad weather.

Egypt's communication and information technology ministry said it would report its findings to the owners of the two damaged Mediterranean cables, FLAG Telecom and SEA-ME-WE4.

A repair ship was expected to begin work to fix the two Mediterranean cables on Tuesday.

Sorry, but the fact that they found an "abandoned" anchor nearby is merely circumstancial. It doesn't conclusively prove anything.

Show me one indisputable fact of american involvement. Until such time this is just your rampant paranoia speaking, so you will have to forgive some of us if we choose not to indulge you.

At this point all that is known is that some cables were cut, but who and why is guess work with no factual basis. So you might as well blame your UFOs. There is as much evidence of their involvement as that of the americans.

LOL! I'm sure it was the UFOs that did it! The Martians are invading Iran next week!
:D:D

Clearly its ok to accept the official word from the authorities when it suits your needs and cry conspiracy when it doesnt. :)

As long as its not american authorities he doesn't have a problem.

Let's say I publicly claim that I'm going to kill you for months on end. One day you're found with a machete sticking in your throat. Who are the police going to come for first?

There's circumstancial evidence though. Only an idiot wouldn't be suspicious at this point, and of all the possibilities, the yanks are the most likely suspects given what we know.

Actually you cut secure comm links, so as to force the opponent to use simpler links.
If you want to listen in to communications, it is easier to listen in to radio and satelite traffic, than to listen in to buried/undersea cabling, to listen in to cable traffic, you have to literally connect to each link within the cable, and considering the size of a cable that is a huge enterprise, whereas radio and satelite can listened into with far less equipment or expense.

won't call the internet secure comm links

any country that uses the internet for classified military comms is daft !

Seabed cables will be fixed by next week

The three - yes, just three - seabed telecoms cables which were broken in two (only two) recent incidents are expected to be fixed by next week, according to the operating companies. The ongoing tinfoil-hat frenzy that has followed the outages may take longer to die down.
...
With luck, the conspiracy bloggers will soon wipe the spittle from their monitors and find something else to get excited about.

Better start the invasion soon then LOL!

What do you know and what makes them the most likely suspects? Please enlighten me.

Still no invasion happening? Or are they waiting for the Second Coming LOL?

'Invasion' would only be the second or third layer of action taken against Iran.

Bear in mind, the odds are good that its one of the following possibilities.

1. Cable cuts, to allow for installation of survellance equipment.
2. " " to observe and analyze methods of communication in that country, when 99% of the normal 'chatter' is removed.
3. To have an installed 'cut off switch' which can throw the region and targeted country into chaos, communications-wise, should
military action be planned.

Here's a useful map, showing the geo-political layout
http://www.heartland.it/map_centro_asia_ring.html

"There have also been leaks which state that the US National Security Agency tapped a fiber-optic undersea cable with some success.
http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9595_22-529826.html
The problem was the flood of information which NSA computers were unable to handle at that time. Former intelligence officials say the agency made its tap with the help of a customized sub.
"It's a submarine capable of bringing a length of cable inside a special chamber, where the men then do the work," while the sub hugs the ocean floor, says one former official. The surface ships used by undersea-cable companies to install and repair cables have similar chambers--called jointing rooms--where crews work on the delicate fibers. When repairing a broken cable, cable companies generally lift one end of the rupture to the surface and into the jointing room, splice in a new length of cable, then lift the other end of the rupture and repeat the process.
http://thegallopingbeaver.blogspot.com/2008/02/where-is-uss-jimmy-carter.html

The current breaks may not be an indication of impending war in the short term, like this weekend, but it also means the game is still on.

And the next time the cables "fail," it will probably happen at the same time as the bombs begin to fall.
