Still 5G but speed capped. It will be a much better experience because of the available spectrum Rain has on 5G compared to their 4G network.

rain’s 5G standard offer limits video streaming resolution to standard definition (480p). To unlock high definition streaming on multiple devices, at next-level speeds, simply upgrade to 5G premium.

Just saw that on their website. Surely it can't be true right.

It's what diffentiates the standard and prmeium product and allows them to justify the price.

Rain 5G for R699 who's getting it?

I'm not jumping on it, Standard definition streaming for R699pm is a rip off to me, also the 30mbps is just wow for R699. I'd rather go back to their 4G offering. Looking forward to the day premium is R699

I agree, although this is using the 5G network it feels like a 4G offer at a premium price.
Only benefit over the 4G offer is the free router and all day data.
For the time being also less congestion.

I believe 30mbps should be enough to stream at HD quality and beyond. If there is any capping to streaming sites, I'm sure a vpn would take care of that hurdle

You can do HD at around 5 to 8Mbs.

If you had a steady 30Mbs you should be able to do UHD, but this is mobile internet.

But unlike all 4G packages this is uncapped. Looking at Telkom and MTN's hard caps this is a bargain.

It should be a steady 30Mbps. Most 5G users are averaging 50-200Mbps. So you should max out your line plus some ALWAYS.

You are preaching to the converted here, but lets be honest ... Rain - the weather, and many other factors (ironic I know) will affect 5G speeds. I would hope people on 30Mb will be getting a guaranteed speed if it is being limited from a higher speed.

BTW, on the news article apparently they are saying the video streams will be limited to 480p on Rain's end. Not cool. I am sure they can not force that in a totally fool proof manner, and the question is exactly at what speed do they throttle services like Netflix, Prime, Showmax, etc to force a 480p stream.
