It looks like this competition has seen it's minimum prices threshhold, and it's now time for branching out to creative spinning. There's some good competition going on.
In terms of line providers, we have a useless SNO, we need a
TNO,
FNO, etc. And mobile service providers internationally use the tactic of contracts to lock people in. Even so, competition only really starts when there are 4 or 5 fully fledged T1 providers out there, and several T2s. The same goes for pay TV. I doubt Top TV and Super5 will cause much hullabaloo, besides offering a bit more
choice.
We need more companies in competition to see a more consumer-centric matket. We want the best value for our money. Price is important; we witnessed the frenzy that ensued specifically here amongst MyBB members in the past two weeks regarding uncapped accounts. But quality of product is just as important, as has been demonstrated by the complaints and cancellations implemented or pledged to be implemented by some Afrihost clients.
But competition can get ugly, and large companies wield more power and have the potential of being fatally ruthless to the underdogs. The State should, with careful discretion, enforce antitrust laws and endeavour to keep the playing fields level to promote healthy competition.
