Upgrading from 384 - 4MB - What should I know?

Ok so I have had enough, 384 sucks big donkey balls. Sick of buffering youtube vids for 20 mins before I can watch it without stuttering.

So I wanted to know, other than the extra +- R250 on my telkom account, what else am I in for?

I heard that with a line upgrade, you have to upgrade your data package accordingly.....


Now I am on the 30GB package that Web Africa promoted last year and gave a selected amount of MyBB users.........Would I need to pay more? Or how does it work?

Any advice much appreciated.

Is it a 384 package or "up to 4mbps" package? If the former, you'll need to upgrade your ISP package to get use of a faster line.

EDIT: Webafrica's "up to 10mbps" 30gig package is R1,359 :sick:

If you have the 30GB account from the Webafrica/MyBroadband promotion, you won't have to pay anything more :)

I've got the 30GB + 4mbps line (up to 10mbps).

Lucky, I'm stuck on 384 till either telkom drops it dsl line prices or I can get an uncapped account which doesn't increase in price the faster your line is. So yeah, never :(

I hear you, having to upgrade both is a little bit pricey!

RE youtube etc, I use the flash video downloader. I have resigned myself to the fact that I'll have to wait for everything.

I run a torrentbox 24/7, so I can haul in enough to keep me going. Pause everything when I get home for browsing etc- 384 is barely adequate. I'm happy with my quantity > speed for now. Of course, you'd struggle to find someone who'd turn down faster speeds/bigger caps for free :D

384k it is for now. Bleak the top end guys get upped from 1->4->10 (insane increases!) and we poor peons get nothing :(

Well I am paying Telkom an extra R260 +-.

I have a 30GB WA account which was a special they ran last year strictly for MyBB members which I don't have to pay extra for :)
 
So looks like my line has already been updated. This is what I get from speedtest, does this seem normal?

Download 2.85 mb/s

Upload 0.75 mb/s
 
you have to upgrade your ADSL line and the data package, lots of money if you want the light speed
