Urgent advice needed!!!

Thanks Peanut - appreciate the info and advice. Good to know some people have manners. Sheesh

NP, you should post a budget and what component you have + what you need in the PC builder thread, so me, duff, archer and NAG Wesley can weigh in on what would better suit your needs.

Not worth it

Can pick up 6870 and the RAM for R2800ish new,not particularly a bargain this deal

wtf, I searched the products you described on their site and gave you the pricing. how was I supposed to know this is not the "exact" product you are looking to buy you ****ing *******?

Next time shut the **** up and go someplace else if you don't want URGENT advice

Where did you see 255 bucks for a 4870 though?

The 4870's x 2 should be worth about 1.2k. Offer him 1.5k for the lot and make it your final offer. Then it looks a decent deal.

Hey MyBBers!

I am a console gamer - I know, don't hate you pc fan boys... But I have decided to build up a little gaming machine. Nothing too crazy. I need advice if I should buy something today or not:

I have been offered 16Gb 1600 Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM (4x4Gb)
and 2 x ATI HD 4870 1Gb GDDR5 cards

all for R2100

Is this worth it?!?!

Thanks in advance,

Scrumpy

What specs is your current PC?

I'd say rather just get a 7770 since you're a console gamer. Will be able to play everything.

Sweet! Decided on the 7770 :) Seriosuly thanks guys. Will let you know PC specs later -it's nothing great, it's a Packard Bell (vomit) with quad core AMD, 8Gb standard ram, 2Tb HDD, and an Nvidia 230 or something...

Just remember, if you get the 7770, you are probably going to be looking at an upgrade again before too long.

That's not promising... Why is that?

PC Specs:

Intel Core Quad Q8300 2.5Ghz
4Gb Ram
Nvidia GT 230 1.5Gb

I know... crap machine, but I can currently run Arma 2 on medium to high settings...

I want to be able to play games like BF3 at decent quality. Not expecting to have the most amazing gaming experience of my life. Not keen to upgrade again soon though :(

At your price point the 7770 is the way to go unless you can pick up a second hand 560ti ~ R1500

BUT we still don't know what PSU you have ( I know you said 550w) but is it some generic thing or a decent name brand?

It's all good and well to get a more powerful 2nd hand GPU setup, but if your PSU can't handle it what's the point?

Well, I have:

AMD 710 Quad Core 3.2 (Clocked to 4)
4GB DDR2 800mhz
ATI 7850 2GB,

I can run BF3 maxed out

Before I had a ATI 5850 (little better then the 7770 in performance) but could only get BF3 on Medium.

Now consider all the new games to be released next year (Far Cry 3, Crysis 3 etc) You're going to wish you had gotten a more powerful card :)

Also consider getting a quote from www.cyberdyne.co.za, they are quite a bit cheaper.

lap? Sorry no idea when it comes to hard core pc stuff - no my way around but am not a gamer - yet

What do I need to spend on it? I have no idea... That's why asking here - also, took Peanut's advice and moved this to the TGNN forum "PC Builders's Guide..." thread and still no response?
