I promise, Mexico will pay for the wall

Bannon who? never heard of him, didn't know what he was doing, I said I didn't approve of the wall scheme.

James Comey: ex-Trump adviser Steve Bannon 'in a world of trouble'

The former FBI director James Comey has said Steve Bannon is “in a world of trouble”, after the former Trump campaign manager and White House adviser was arrested on a charge of skimming donations from a fundraising campaign for a wall on the border with Mexico.

“It’s another reminder of the kind of people this president surrounds himself with,” Comey told CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday.

Bannon is the latest figure with close ties to the president to have found himself in trouble with the law. Others include former campaign chair Paul Manafort, former lawyer Michael Cohen and former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Comey is also a former US attorney for Southern District of New York, where Bannon was indicted last week.

“At this point they could almost start their own crime family,” Comey told CBS, echoing the passage in his book A Higher Loyalty, released in April 2018, in which he famously likened Trump, who fired him in May 2017, to mafia chiefs including Sammy “the Bull” Gravano.

“It’s a very serious case. The southern district of New York has laid it out in a very detailed indictment called a speaking indictment, and he’s in a world of trouble.”

Bannon has pleaded not guilty and faces up to 20 years in jail if convicted.

“It’s a very serious fraud case with a huge amount of money stolen from innocent victims,” Comey said. “That’ll drive up potential punishments.”

Bannon was released on a $5m bond, backed by $1.75m in cash or real estate. He has until 3 September to find the collateral. Three other men, Brian Kolfage, Andrew Badolato and Timothy Shea, were also arrested in the alleged scheme to defraud the We Build the Wall campaign, which authorities said raised more than $25m.

Kolfage, Badolato and Shea have not yet entered pleas. In a statement on his Facebook page on Saturday, Kolfage said he had “obtained one of the best super lawyers around who isn’t afraid to fight back at the politically motivated assaults against me”.

Bannon, Comey said, was “in trouble because the indictment lays it out in such detail, including excerpts from texts. If you’re Steve Bannon [or] you’re his lawyers, you’re reading this saying, ‘I’m going down here.’

“I don’t know what the next steps are for him and his co-defendants, but that’s what I meant by ‘world of trouble.’”

Totally agree. For Trumpists everything is 100% about culture and identity.

Policy, best practice, norms, standards, expertise, competence, effectiveness be damned.

Only for the true believers (who are the marks, a la the 'Build the Wall' fraud). For the unscrupulous, including Trump himself, rapacious looting and ego-stroking is the goal.

Trump is a symptom, not a cause of the split.

The cause of the split is the infiltration of identity politics into the mainstream culture:

Pretty neat illustration of the sealed-off perspective that your confirmation bias built. Mainstream American culture has always been shot-through with identity politics.

Trump antagonizes GOP megadonor Adelson in heated phone call

Trump chided the Las Vegas mogul — a financial linchpin of his reelection effort — for not spending more. And now, he might not.

When President Donald Trump connected by phone last week with Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson — perhaps the only person in the party who can cut a nine-figure check to aid his reelection — the phone call unexpectedly turned contentious.

The 87-year-old casino mogul had reached out to Trump to talk about the coronavirus relief bill and the economy. But then Trump brought the conversation around to the campaign and confronted Adelson about why he wasn’t doing more to bolster his reelection, according to three people with direct knowledge of the call. One of the people said it was apparent the president had no idea how much Adelson, who’s donated tens of millions of dollars to pro-Trump efforts over the years, had helped him. Adelson chose not to come back at Trump.

When word of the call circulated afterward, Republican Party officials grew alarmed the president had antagonized one of his biggest benefactors at a precarious moment in his campaign. They rushed to smooth things over with him, but the damage may have been done.

Adelson's allies say it’s unclear whether the episode will dissuade the Las Vegas mogul — long regarded as a financial linchpin for Trump’s reelection — from helping the president down the home stretch.

The White House is worried that just 6 of Trump's top donors in 2016 and 2018 have given to his reelection bid, according to a new report

  • President Donald Trump is failing to attract millionaire and billionaire mega-donors who've given to him in the past, according to a New York Times report.
  • Just six of the top 38 donors to Trump-aligned super PACs over the past two cycles have donated to America First, the super PAC created to gather all the biggest donations to Trump's 2020 campaign, The Times said.
  • Meanwhile, Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has raked in massive sums from mega-donors. Pro-Biden super PACs have gathered a combined $45 million in dark money so far this cycle, Business Insider reported on Monday.

Note to posters in this thread:

Convalescent Plasma... or as Donnie says it, "Plohsma"... is a shiny object meant to distract you from 180 550 dead Americans. It's been around since 1910 and it's no miracle cure for COVID, but it has been used for SARS, MERS and Ebola. Trials have been limited and we don't really know if there are real benefits... We're actually doing our own study at UCT.

It's a distraction

... and a child's feeble attempt to build momentum for the RNC.

Proceed accordingly.

So let me get this straight... they want the media to not draw it's own conclusions surrounding this dumpster fire of not having an RNC platform for 2020?
RESOLVED, That the 2020 Republican National Convention calls on the media to engage in accurate and unbiased reporting, especially as it relates to the strong support of the RNC for President Trump and his Administration; and

The judges don't like me.

Major Trump federal voting Pennsylvania lawsuit effectively shut down

(CNN)President Donald Trump's plan to sue Pennsylvania in federal court to determine how the state conducts mail-in voting has been effectively shut down by a US district court judge.

The judge, Nicholas Ranjan of the US District Court in the Western District of Pennsylvania, decided Sunday that Trump's federal lawsuit against the Secretary of the Commonwealth over the use of drop boxes, poll watching and other voting processes should be put on hold, while state court cases about voting move forward.

It's a setback for Republicans where there are several ongoing cases that could determine how the battleground state's voters cast ballots this election. Ranjan was appointed by Trump, and the federal courts in some instances can be considered friendlier to conservative interests.

"After carefully considering the arguments raised by the parties, the Court finds that the appropriate course is abstention, at least for the time being. In other words, the Court will apply the brakes to this lawsuit, and allow the Pennsylvania state courts to weigh in and interpret the state statutes that undergird Plaintiffs' federal- constitutional claims," Ranjan wrote Sunday.

Pennsylvania is one of only a handful of states where Trump has sued to make mail-in voting tougher making this case a closely watched one.

"The President's fight against the problems of Pennsylvania's radical new vote-by-mail system has been running on parallel tracks in state and federal court for some time," Justin Clark, Trump 2020 deputy campaign manager, said in a statement to CNN.

Strong Nork energy in that resolution...

Please report, as we've repeated multiple times in the same resolution, how much the RNC likes President Big Boy.

I mean other than ‘Donald is great and powerful and you must be nice to him’, Republicans literally have no platform whatsoever.

They stand for nothing.

It’s a cult.
