User selected DStv channel packages are being explored

At the moment DSTV is offering 13 channels for R36 to people who buy the DSTV Mobile Drifta. That is 5 sport channels, 2 news channels, 2 music and Mnet series, sony max, Cartoon network and african magic

Sure but we have to be realistic they need to create incentive for people to pay for the premium bouquet at full price R550(because lets face it they want to make money which is fair). So they allow you to choose any channels at lets say R100 per channel. People like me who's disconnected their dstv because i don't want to pay fullprice R550 for only one channel(only thing i'm interested in SS1) because that makes no sense will at least now give them R100pm. Those same ppl might select a few more channels that kinda slightly interests them since they now have the option to do so and dstv might make anything from R200-R300 from a subscriber who now gives then R0 because he doesn't want to pay full price for 1 or 2 channels.

So if you're interested in lets say 4-5 channels you might as well pay full price and get lots of channels

I am not interested in half the channels in the Premium Bouquet, but that is what I have as none of the existing bouquets give me what I want.

What Vegeta says here is true, if they did it, they might make an extra R200-R300 from someone who is currently a subscriber, and if you are looking for more than 2-3 channels, could just as well go Premium. However, if my channel selection came out cheaper than the Premium by at least R100, I would do that, otherwise it's not worth it.

So it isn't even imminent then, Monochoice is just making fools out of all its cash cows.

To those that have not cancelled their DSTV subscriptions, please do so as soon as the RWC2011 is finished, this would certainly give Aletta Alberts a warm to hot squishy feeling along with the realization that she should have worn an adult nappy to work.

what makes no sense is that MultiChoice already sells individual channels...

for example...

Hotels/Timeshare/Holiday Apartments/Hospitals/ Retirement Villages
The decoders must be installed at the central head end system. These central decoders will then feed the signal through the cable system to do each TV point. The establishment is to be 100% fully subscribed.

Subscription Fees:
R165.10 per TV per month (Including VAT) payment must be made to MultiChoice on a one-cheque payment system. (a minimum of three TVs is required).

Additional channels can be added to your existing premium package @ R12.90 each (Including VAT) per month, per viewing point.

The most irritating thing when using B&B's is trying to find a channel that is viewable, which is normally about 10 or so of the whole lot. I wish DSTV would come up with a menu stystem where the disabled channels are completely hidden/greyed out in the menu.

That applies to any non-Premium package too. It's highly annoying at my in-laws trying to find a channel that you can actually watch.

Sing me up! I dont need all the channels on dstv! Watch only about 7 of them!

I switched DSTV on just for the rugby worldcup. So it will be disconnected again at the end of this month. There is nothing else worth watching in any case.

Having "choice" will not persuade me to switch on. I have uncapped interwebz, so I download everything we want too watch.

Tata Sky in India

The fools from DStv can simply copy the wording off from this site:

http://www.tatasky.com/channel-packages.html

Tata Sky now brings you more flexibility in choosing the channels you want to watch. Apart from the genre-based packages made especially for your convenience, you can now also choose individual channels and make your own pack.
Choose channels on an a la carte basis and make your own pack or mix-n-match by adding individual channels to your existing genre-based packages.

That site pisses on my battery....

You get the HD Box + Installation + 2 months State Package + 2 months HD channels for Rs 4250 ... which equates to R661.50.

Surely if it was on the radar 3 months ago it should be visible to the naked eye by now?

Find something useful relating to the DSTV decoder's remote yesterday - saved me a trip to the store as I needed two AA batteries. They're not very potent any more, but did the trick!

Cartoon network booted for Disney with terrible content. Boomerang booted. Trace booted. E! booted. Sales and forum teams have stated that E! come back when big brother comes off. one has to wonder if this was true as with idols on its exit we have seen less channels left and a subscription increase greater than inflation. hope the local channel launches weren't a tactic to reduce content.
