Hi Folks

I have asked MTN and have been told there is no software to use their sim card in my laptop without a modem and I am not going to buy a modem.

Does anyone know how I can use their sim card to access data on the sim card via a built in modem on a Lenovo Thinkpad?

You can just use the sim in the laptop. You should have the option to create a mobile connection under networking. Set the APN to mymtn and if you need a number, set it to dial *99#

*edit* there is also a Lenovo dialler software if I recall as well, use the same settings as above.

Just remember that no support is provided by MTN for if this doesn't work- the built in devices are untested on the network.

True but its the same with any cellphone not provided by them which is effectively what the internal modem is.

Are you sure it is built in SIM card or just SIM slot? It can be built in 3G/4G modem, but typically in Thinkpads there is an optional security device with a socket which looks like a SIM holder. Thinkpad full model number number, location and photos and expanded view of Device Manager will help.
