Hi,

I use my personal outlook client and own pc for work and so my outlook has the work exchange account and then my personal Gmail account on it.I was wondering if there is anyway my gmail mails in outlook can be seen by my employer as they are on the same outlook profile as the work exchange account?

thanks

Big mistake right there.
I used my own PC at a previous employer for 3 years, physically took my laptop to work each day. No kickback, thanks or zilch.
I actually upgraded the whole office to new systems, yet my own was ignored.
Just saying. Rather ask them to supply a PC for you.
You have already been owned by them. Harsh reality.

Separate profiles in Outlook so no. Unless they are able to remote into your personal desktop.
Tell them to provide you with a company-endorsed PC/laptop. They are unable to manage that PC of yours so it's a security risk. Especially if you are using a VPN to connect to the corporate network.

wouldn't it be beneficial to use your personal PC for work, company not checking what you are actually doing, basically off the grid?

I'm in a similar situation, bonus for me is my laptop retailed at R25k and the company is insuring it. So, if a replacement is ever needed, it remains mine.

The current laptop I have I scored after being retrenched. Instead of taking a cash lump-sum at the time I asked them for the laptop.

no they see the account not the profile. you can send an email meant for gmail communication from your work email address by mistake, they can see your sent items. :p

people sometimes forget to check their "from" field when there are multiple email accounts in the same profile.

imo, its better to create a separate profile for your personal emails if you have to use the same pc and user account.

If the work mail account is setup as IMAP, they could see all mail and folders of the work account. They won't see your personal profile, because they don't own your email and login details. Just don't move personal mail to work profile, if IMAP.

thats what i said, they see the(edit:their) email account, not the(edit:entire) mail profile. i only recommended creating separate mail profiles because it can cause problems sometimes having both in the same profile. people make mistakes.

Human error happens. You could use the incorrect account one day because of your drug habit/drunk/wasted/tired/angry etc.
