Hi
I think my future is down the drain and its out of my control...uh my problem is that next year i will be in matric and i should apply to varsity but my grade 11 results arent what i had expected especially for mathematics....now the main problem is that i want to apply for theoretical physics(bsc physics) degree so i got level 4(56%) in mathematics for my finals and the requirement for maths is level 6(70%) but i managed to get 80% in physics and as for mathematics i always get over 90% except for finals where i was very disturbed and also i know even in grade12 i will always get over 90% because i am good in mathematics...so should i apply with those grade 11 results?and if so,where and what are my chances of being conditionally accepted? or should i wait for matric results so that i can apply with them whilst i take a gap year or something???...thank you in advance.

Just work in matric and apply with any results you get (if better) doesn't really matter as you can apply with matric final marks no issue.. Gr11 results are just eager people looking to get provisional acceptance

Your actual acceptance is based on the grade 12 stuff. Just make sure you apply on time else you'll have to wait a whole year.

An if all else fails, there is a bridging course for Maths.

I don't mean to be a douche, but you need to work on your English too. You require a certain level of English to get accepted into a University course, particularly one in the sciences. When I did my degree the requirement was a B for English (70%+). Also on that note, I call BS when you say it is out of your control. That's resigning yourself to failure and trying to shift the blame away from yourself. You are the only person responsible for your actions.

Now that is all out of the way, if you suffer from exam anxiety there are meds you can take before a test or exam to calm your nerves. Exam anxiety usually stems from the fact that you feel unprepared for a test or exam, if that's the case study well in advance and take it slow. Otherwise make an effort to diagnose where it comes from.

If you need to gain more confidence attend extra classes, get a tutor and the top piece of advice I can give is ask your teacher the questions. Who the fsck cares if you look like a nerd in school? You're the one trying to construct a better future for yourself. Rather ask the question and seem like a fool than don't ask the question and be a fool.

You've got enough time ahead.

Which universities are you applying to ? UKZN ? If so, you'll need to fill in a CAO form. As far as I know, applications should start on the 1st of Jan, and you can do them online.

Send in ALL your term results to them. Right up till this day, I have no clue how they work. They only accepted me on my final martic marks (even though my trial marks were sufficient) and my friends (who had slightly lower marks than me for maths and physics) were accepted for the course I had as my first choice (but was listed as their fifth choices). So yeah, I don't know what goes down there, but sometimes you get lucky.

Also, considering you're in matric and everything... Paragraphs will be your friend.

cool thanx bt if i apply with grade 12 final results wouldnt it be late as most courses will already be full?

thanx so "by time" as in early january?also im worried abt availability of space for the course i want to do.

Make sure you do well in the June examinations and apply with your grade 11 and june grade 12 results.
most varsities(stellenbosch,up,uj and wits) wants grade11 results or grade12 final results only bt at uct i think they also want grade1
2 midyear results bt im not certain if they use them for their selection process bt its worth a shot so i'll try them n hope for the best.

I feel better now thanks a lot.

Closing dates for applications for most universities are end of August so you better check that before waiting for the end grade 12. With the very easy matric, you would find yourself competing for scraps if you wait so long.

I read somewhere that at wits if matric final results are exceptionally good then you can apply in january even if the course you apply for is closed, you can still be admitted and also at stellenbosch they can consider your application but i wouldnt rely much on that so i'll take chances and apply before august with grade11 results and hope for the best.

Yes, in some exceptional cases they will allow a student to apply if their results are really good. 90% doesn't come into that realm unfortunately. You need to focus on your mid year exams for now and get your applications in based on those results, then do well in your finals to secure the place.

Yes your grade 11 results WILL hurt you, but if you correct the mistake in midyears and finals it will be ok.
