Vasectomy concerns

Got mine done last year just to give a bit of feedback for the guys in case they are thinking about doing it.

1.) Booked to go see a Urologist and he just makes sure that it is what you want as it will be permanent. I went to a Dr. Van Der Walt at Wilgeheuwel hospital in Gauteng. his rooms are there but he does the procedure at Constantia clinic on Ontdekkers road as it is a day clinic and is cheaper than doing it at Wilgeheuwel.
2.) Booked a day to get the snip done. fill out all the prebooking documents and had to send prebooking forms to Discovery medical aid for them to approve and give a authorisation code for it. they also gave me some specimen cups and some forms for Ampath to get a semen test done (this is for after the operation)
3.) On the day of the snip I went to the Constantia clinic in the morning and you basically fill out the forms and give the authorisation code.
4.) went into ward room, strip down and wear one of those nice gowns they give you.
5.) nurse came and gave me a tablet which was supposed to knock me out but it didn't even though I was far more relaxed.
6.) climbed on the trolley bed and got wheeled into procedure area. they gave me the anaestetic and the next thing I remember was getting wheeled back to the bed in the ward.
7.) sat their for about half an hour had a sandwich.
8.) Doctor came in and just checked how I was and then said I could go home.
9.) called the wife to come collect me (they are adamant for you not to drive yourself and are quite anal about letting you go without proof that someone is driving you).
10.) Went and had coffee with the wife afterwards.
11.) you have to still wear condoms, or alternative birth control until you are checked for your semen count.
12.) After about 4-6 weeks or a certain amount of ejaculations, you need to take your sample to Ampath or Lancet (the specimen cups and forms you got originally from the doctor).
13.) they phone you up and say you are good to go (as was in my case but if they still detect the semen you may need to go for another test a week or two later)

Personally I was quite worried when i went to go get it done but it was actually nothing and I had no complications and it still works like a charm ;)

Just wear a condom for ****s sake.

Why do you want to cut off an integral part of your penis?
You chaps astound me with your level of insanity.

Your lack of knowledge about a vasectomy or the male genital anatomy is astounding.

I had a vasectomy done about 15 years ago. The only long-term effect that I observed, is that the volume of ejaculate has decreased somewhat. As far as I am concerned, its a win-win: less of a mess and stress-free bonking.

My nuts are hurting just reading this thread.

Thanks for the info....and ball ache.

Doesn't a urulogist look up you?

Even better, he feels you up while wearing latex gloves. Did not know if I should enjoy it or not so I thought, bugger it, let me enjoy it ... so I did

I think that happens with age.

True dat, no more up-the-bum-no-babies :D

I'm 24 no kids and not involved with anyone at the moment but i'm planning on getting a vasectomy.

You are too young. Unless you have a little tribe, I don't think you should do it until you are at least 40 then. At 24 you don't think the same as when you are 34.

But then again, the world gene pool might be better off

For certain forumites, like Ninja, that would be after a couple hours

lots of folks get snipped young, i just don't want the responsibility of having kids life is difficult enough as it is,.
As for changing mindsets i'm rather certain that if tomorrow i found out i had a mini me on its way, my mindset would change rather rapidly, if my mindset changes i would rather it happen over a decade.
If there were an other option available like the male pill i would take it, the closest that exists is the VASclip but thats not available locally. anyway if you can't afford reversal and yes i know its far from 100% effective you should not be making babies that is my opinion!!
And your quip about the gene pool is sadly true I prescribe to many eugenic philosophies and although i am a reasonable example of good genes, i am far from what i believe to the summit of genetic success.

BTW the VASclip is unreliable and was pulled from just about all markets.

But hey, when I was 24 I also did not like being told I would have a different attitude when I was 34 but it is true.

Its up to you but make a proper informed decision if you decide to do it or not do it.

Point taken although there is a new version of the vasclip now thats supposed to be better. may i ask did you end up getting a reversal?

Hell no. Once its done, its done for me. I don't mind living with the discomfort as I've got enough kids :) so no reversal for me. From what I've read on many international forums, it gets rather complicated once you go for a reversal after a complication.

We are about to pop our third child (twins first time so 2 pregnancies) and we both agree that 3 is enough. We feel super lucky to have the twin boys who are now 4 and a daughter due in 4 weeks.

We also both agree that some form of permanent solution is required to prevent more pregnancies. Where we disagree is who should be the one to have to do it. I know that technically it is vastly more simple, less invasive, less chance of side effects and complication- basically a no brainer that I should have a vasectomy.

The problem is that even reading this thread is making me feel woozy and I just don't know if I can bring myself to do it.

I am considering a vasectomy. From what I have gathered if all goes well, there is no decrease in sexual function or desire. Also the operation is quick and relatively painless. It can be done under a local anesthetic, which is what I would prefer.

But I have also heard horror stories. One guy I know said he woke from the operation in terrible agony that lasted for a year. He told me that it was the worst pain that he had ever experienced and that he would NEVER have had the operation if he had known what he would go through.

To anyone who has had this done, was it as easy as they all claim?

Also, any recommendations for who I can speak to about this in the Randburg / Sandton area? Preferably someone who has never had patients subsequently change gender, or their surnames to "Bobbit"...

I've had no problems and very little pain (only the 1st few days).

I had one about 8 years ago. Could not have gone simpler.
Doc snipped, tied and cauterized. All while I lay there playing PSP. Only bugger about the procedure was he finished while I was still mid game and I had to can it.

I waited for the proverbial "feels like you have been kicked in the nuts" for a few days but it never came. Fantastic doc!

No loss of horniness (spell?).

Did you go to a GP/urologist/clinic?

You will be very lucky to find someone to do it for you, I was 27 with kiddies and had to put up a huge fight to be sterilized. Apparently I was too young! Eventually got it done at a gov hospital after some counseling sessions (all very boring).
