The retention of land taken in that war is commonly regarded as illegally held.

um, I really don't think they give a squirt what anyone else thinks. They were attacked by the Arab league, they captured the land and they hold it today for strategic military advantage... and I don't blame them... I would have done the same thing. The Arabs and Pallies can go hang.

The moral of the story is... don't attack your neighbour... cos he might just keep your house for himself.

come now, come now... please don't start behaving like our friend aqua_dung!

Israel was given a share of the land by UN resolution in 1948. Any land that was occupied AFTER that time was fair spoils of war (war that Israel never started).

Israel actually WITHDREW (Gasp! Gasp!) from the Gaza strip two years ago... even incurring the wrath of their own Jewish settlers in the process.

Your statement is not in accord with the facts.

The newly formed UN created a partition plan ( later rejected even by the US ) that did not take into account the views of the inhabitants of the land, and which was rejected by Arab bodies. The land taken in the subsequent conflict is not fair spoils of war and is also illegally held, in accordance with the principle stated by the later UN of the "inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war". So yes - all illegal.

The withdrawal from Gaza has not been done in anything like a humanitarian manner, with the Palestinians unable to continue employment, obtain medical treatment, access sea traffic, etc. It has been done in a very brutal manner - the creation of a tightly controlled ghetto that has led to great human suffering. So no morality points there.

So what I say does accord with the facts.

I don't deny these facts, but the results remain illegal, even in the view of the UN who you quote as the "right" behind the formation of the state.

OK, so let me get this straight...

1) Israel is supposed to abide by all UN resolutions except THIS one right?
2) And Israel is supposed to give the land back to the Pallies, except they are supposed to provide them with jobs and free hospitals? right?

have I got it now? OK? Sheesh all this hypocrisy is pretty confusing.

so if the UN got it wrong... then how do we know they didn't get all the other resolutions regarding Israel wrong?

LOL... ja... just trying to balance the thread out with your antisemitism :p

Like I said, ask Rabbi Yisroel Weiss to teach you about Judaism before you go around claiming Anti-Semitism, I'm not the one linking to hate sites.

Who the hell is that? Tell Rabbi Yisreol Weiss to come and speak to me. he might learn a few things.

You don't have to link to any hate sites, your posts are quite antisemitic enough. :p

Yeah know you have said this about 50 times already. Still not adding any credibility. ;)

The UN has been somewhat different at different points, and the rejection of the plan by the Arab bodies and the absence of obtaining the wishes of those owning the land are enough to make it illegal. Only 33 countries ( 3 bullied by the US ) voted in favour, NONE of them in the area concerned.

If their land were returned to them, obviously they would have no need of Israeli facilities. In the absence of that option, they need the facilities they previously enjoyed.

I don't think that Rabbi Yisroel Weiss gives a flying platz about Israel. When the dreck hits the fan, oi weh, he'll just stay put in his kibbutz in the US of A or somewhere nice and cozy. :D :D

Well you yourself use one as justification and reject another, so you tell me LOL ;)

The UN has changed over time. At the time of the Plan there were 57 member countries. Now 193 IIRC. The Resolution about the 6-day war is a Security Council resolution, not a general assembly one.

If the Arab countries did not have so much power in terms of oil, the world would be a very different place. ;)

Not consulting the original inhabitants was decided long before by the 1917 Balfour declaration, very neighborly...
