Virgin Mobile joins the data fray

As far as 24 month contracts go, this is pretty darn decent!

Virgin Mobile is also offering subscribers Samsung Galaxy Tab P7300 with 2GB of monthly data for R300 per month on a 24 month contract.

Good to see more mobile operators are following cell c and 8ta, but what about prepaid data prices?

This is basically CellC under a different name.

I am about to port to CellC purely because of data bundles. Was excited to see this, but alas, no love for prepaid.
Sorry, signing a contract for data is silly.

does anyone have a decent covarage map of Virgin Mobile, coz the one on their site does not give any info.

+1 Also ported to CellC a few weeks ago - for the most part - happy with coverage and throughput.
But some better deals could be had for prepaid Data.
I still maintain that a USSD Giga20 service would be sweet, without the contract.
I'd religiously purchase that sort of bundled prices, upfront, with no admin or payment hassles that may occur in a postpaid situation.

I went to CellC for the same reason, and then moved back to VC b/c CellC charged me the incorrect OOB rates every single time i went out of bundle, even though the bundle hadn't reached its expiry date. Their support is shocking and i wasted so much time trying to recover my money. to date, they still owe me more than R100 b/c the errors just kept piling up. In the end, it just wasn't worth my time to worry about incorrect billing (not to mention the poor coverage when you're on the road - city centers are fine).

Apparently Virgin uses CellC towers. I recently drove from Durban to near Richards Bay, and had signal the entire time. Not only did I have signal, I had HSDPA. Once we reached our destination (Prawn Shak, not sure where that is), I had 5Mb/s (via a speedtest) connection, and the guys on VC and MTN were battling with Edge.
Strangely though, I have only noticed this jump in speed and signal since I upgraded to my 920. But that may have just been coincidental timing.

So they are taking the contract route alone

At least they have got their deals on TopUp too.

Does anyone know which network they roam on. Last time I checked they were on Cell C but Cell C also roams on Vodacom so I'm not sure how that works - whether they (Virgin mobile) roam on Vodacom too. Or am I wrong?

You should have just loaded the 3GB for R399 for a year bundle. No need to worry about OOB or loading a bundle every month. This is what I'm doing with CellC.

I'm beginning to hate seeing the "X24" in the data Space.I'ts a sure road to slavery.
