Morning all,

OK, first things first.....if this is the wrong place to post this thread, please direct me to the right forum. :erm:

Recently I upgraded to Windows 7. All of a sudden my HP Officejet L7590 can not print. I downloaded the full driver (385Mb) and install it. I get as far as the screen where it says I can plug in my USB device. After that, nothing happens. The NEXT button is supposed to be active, but it stays greyed out . Any idea how I can fix this problem?

1) Did you do a fresh install or an upgrade from a previous Windows OS?
2) Have you gone to Device Manager and taken a look what is happening there?
3) If any of the devices in Device Manager have a yellow flag next to them have you tried updating those drivers?
4) Have you tried using Windows Update to see if there are any hardware updates?
5) Have you tried deleting the virtual USB port in Device Manager, and then rebooting?
6) In fact you can try uninstalling the printer drivers and USB port completely, then rebooting, then reinstalling the driver.

I had a similar problem on Vista 64 SP1 for my Samsung SCX-4600 a while back. The software refused to find my printer so I could not install it.
YMMV, but what worked for me was to install the printer via add printer (in Control Panel) and then to point it to where the samsung software package extracted itself (navigate to the driver folder, usually called driver :-) ) when it gave me the option to direct it to the driver disk.
That got the printer driver installed, and after that the system was able to scan and print to/from the printer.
I never did get the Samsung utilities installed, but all the applications (word, paint, etc ) could scan and print using their own interfaces.
Some time later I needed to reinstall Vista 64, so I got the the latest Samsung software and it found the printer without issue, be that because of the Vista reinstall or that they changed their install program I'll never know.
