Hi guys,

-I was on a Cell C mobile LTE router for over 2 years using on my laptop to surf the net using Firefox. I had good connectivity and very reliable data usage (large chunks not going missing if I wasn't watching vids etc)
-I switched to Vodacom 2 months back due to a good deal. I am now surfing using the same laptop and browser I was using with Cell C, but if I have eg. Google open on Firefox and not doing a single thing, I leave the laptop and when I come back later, the counter shows that I have used over 1.5GB of data
-So I did that a few times - eg. just random browsing for 20minutes (No vids and just reading news etc) and the data usage jumped up to 2.5GB which is impossible for what I was doing

-Has anyone had a similar issue with Vodacom?
-How do I track exactly what browsing activity has been chewing my data?

-I am on AVG and it is up to date.

Thanks in advance.

I'm on Vodacon. What's works for me is to turn off the 4g/lte data mode. Data seems to last longer on 3G. Doesn't really affect my Internet experience.

Does the data deplete when the laptop is off?

Is your Windows 10 on version 1803? (have had users with faulty Windows Update that then chows their data as it tries of update over and over)

you need to turn of some update settings in windows 10

Basically its called delivery optimization on newer versions of windows 10 or choose how windows updates are delivered. In settings\updates\advanced options, you need to change option to pc's on my local network and then disable the entire feature (button above "pcs on my local network"

Basically windows 10 allows other users to pull updates of your pc and speed up downloading of updates for users... makes sense but not for people on metered data.

Also look for a option metered data.. enable and set a limit. your updates will basically pause cos of that method

Thanks guys - what I realized now is that as I have switched service providers, my new network connection was not set as a metered connection. I have changed that setting now and will monitor.
