Vodacom Data SMS's getting irritating, REALLY irritating

No, but if Vodacom send SMS' to your data number you don't receive it

Careful, they might just send you a daily sms saying "We are working on it, please be patient".

Thats exactly what I am getting now in place of the usual warnings, and believe me it's just as irritating!
Gee's Vodacom, do you employ zombies for engineers!!! I seems to think so.

Hi, I'm using an iPhone 3G 16 gig edition. I'm on pay as you go and I buy data packs from Vodacom to surf the net. For a few months now, everytime I buy a data pack I get spammed SMSes from Vodacom:

You only have 4000 KB left before costs will be deducted from your call account.

or

Costs are now being deducted from your call account.

These messages just keep coming, all day, in no set pattern, yet it is clear that 'costs' are not being deducted from my call account - my airtime never goes down unless I make phone calls. I have gone through all my apps, and I have made sure none of them are attempting to connect to the net or use IM push or whatever. I've tried resettings, turning off 3G, wifi etc, but it doesn't seem to stop. What can I do?

Hi

I have exact same phone on pay as u go too.
Was getting spammed big time in December.
Phoned 155 I think it was.
Guy was helpful. (mmm that's weird)
He said they would get on it.
Got an sms that they working on it.

But I let the data bundle expire and only got a 250MB on Jan 1st.
Since then I have got a few SMS's telling me that they working on the problem.
But I have not got any 4000K left and cost being deducted yet.
Will see what happens when I topup my data before it runs out.

My sister just started using a data bundle today for the 1st time ever and she has already got a few SMS's before even using a whole MB.

MY story so far...

It's totally ridiculous - I now judge the end of my bundle based on when I stop receiving the sms's!

Spam from Vodacom

I keep getting SMS's telling me my data bundle is about to expire, and then a short while later, telling me my bundle has expired.

I get these whether I have an active bundle or not, and when I do have an active bundle, its no where near expired.

I think I must be close on 80 of these messages, I've been trying to get Vodacom to stop sending them since November, but they keep giving me a reference number, and the onslaught continues.

This wouldn't be a problem, except I don't like being woken up at 1am, 2am, 3am, etc - EVERY NIGHT with the same rubbish.

I can't put my phone on silent, as I'm meant to be on standby....

Anyone know if you can report them to WASPA... want my damn sleep.

Get a cheap phone with a different SIM/number for standby calls !

So the solution is to spend money on a new phone, and carry two phones around only to avoid being spammed by Vodacom?

Add me to the list of this annoying 'feature'...

I wish I lived near the Vodacom CEO - toss a brick through his window everytime I get woken up between 22:00-08:00.

Might be a faulty or misconfigured SMS/MMS setting on Voda's site where it duplicates SMS/MMS messages unnecessary

These sms's don't sound like spam

The word "Spam" as applied to Email means Unsolicited Bulk Email ("UBE").

Unsolicited means that the Recipient has not granted verifiable permission for the message to be sent. Bulk means that the message is sent as part of a larger collection of messages, all having substantively identical content.
A message is Spam only if it is both Unsolicited and Bulk.

- Unsolicited Email is normal email
(examples: first contact enquiries, job enquiries, sales enquiries)

- Bulk Email is normal email
(examples: subscriber newsletters, customer communications, discussion lists)

Its unwanted and sent to a huge amount of subscriber = spam.
