Vodacom Data SMS's getting irritating, REALLY irritating

Just noticed my cellphone is dead :( So I can't check how long its been going on.

Think its about two months.... therefore, their lack of action makes it purposeful.

You know, I'm sure that VD's explanation of why it's happening is correct. It might have been at one stage, but it's changed.

I used to get the "costs deducted" message shortly after I connected, and then the "4Mb left" message after I disconnected. But lately I've been checking my email around 23:00-ish, then I get woken at 2:30-ish with the one, then again at 3:30-ish with the other. I also get a lot more "4Mb left" messages than "costs deducted" messages.

VD, any progress with this? I'm quite willing to provide additional info if you need it (logs of sms's, etc)

Unfortunately we do not have an exact time frame for the resolution of this issue...
@CathJ could you please PM your details and we'll have it checked
Regards
VD

On 2010/01/13 at 02:32 I received the following:
You Only have 4000 KB left before costs will be deducted from your call account.
On 2010/01/13 at 03:29 I received the following:
Costs are now being deducted from your call account.
This morning I checked *111#,1,7 and it shows:
You have 8.59 MB available to use.Your data bundle will expire on 20100201.
None of my airtime had been used either.

These are the first such messages I have received since 2009/12/09.
I am still using the same bundle.

I'm still receiving them, another night ruined
2010/01/12 23:01

2010/01/12 23:57

2010/01/13 01:12

2010/01/13 02:09

Woken up four times in one night, every hour - so you can imagine may day being pretty miserable.

Thanks VC

Going to find out from WASPA if this somehow falls under their jurisdiction.

Nope, Vodacom is not a member, and even if they were, this is not advertising or spam.

If they are such a problem for you, ask VD to disable the messages for your number.

I believe he did yesterday...

They're not a problem during the day - but at night they are.

Based on the definition of spam, this is now spam.

Who's definition?

The messages you are receiving are only being sent to your number, they are informational (although incorrect) and are not advertising a product or service.
This is simply an annoying misfiring of the data bundle warning mechanism.

Who's definition?
Previous page.
Still doesn't tell me who's definition that was.

They are not bulk, each one you get was specially prepared just for you.

As far as being unsolicited, the warnings messages are part of the data bundle service, buy purchasing a bundle you probably implicitly agreed to receive them.

Well - when everyone is getting the exact same messages at random - I'd consider it bulk - many are getting them, and they have no purpose...

Also, it is unsolicited in that I have been asking them to stop for two months... if it were part of an agreement when buying a data bundle, then it would be an agreement to receive a message when my bundle is almost depleted, not a message at random providing false information, which therefore serves no purpose.

I wonder how many less informed keep buying bundles when they get these messages :p

I'm in the same boat as everyone else.
Logged 3 calls with Vodacom and each time its the same *They will sort it out *

Got one at 4.15 Am the other day.
Everytime I use any sort of connection I either get the
* Charges are now being deducted from my account * Or the
* You have less than 4000Kb left *
I just want them to STOP!!!

How long does it take for Vodakom to fix this damn issue ..... I'm still getting these SMS's at random intervals DAILY ...

FFS, FIX THE DAMN BUG ALREADY!!!!!

Its been months already ... how can they NOT have found or fix the problem??
