Vodacom data, surely there is a limit ??

Achievement unlocked!

OOB SHARK wins!

Thanks, whats the prize :cry::p

Would seriously like to look into this as a case study and work out the what's whens and why's. Granted there is user error which I admit, but still looking at better, safer solutions...

its up to Mangoman20 if he wants the final amount revealed.

Let the investigation complete and get the full figure and picture. Would like to see if it was indeed the device to blame or some other issue.

Also need to see if I have a job and life left in this world :p

**** me sideways, slap my ass and call me sheila :eek:

OMG, that is :sick:

Looking into it now, if this was a continuous connection there is no way of stopping the line as the billing system will not update until the internet connection is terminated.

SURELY Vodacom has incremental CDR data with auto cutoffs at given presets?

Or do you literally have a single CDR per entire data session?

We specifically break up data CDRs at 2MB for this very reason. If a single CDR system is indeed the system with which Vodacom operates then it's no bloody wonder that OOB is such a massive problem.

But surely someone could have figured that out by now and made rather simple changes to the billing systems to resolve this...such as smaller CDR increments.

I'm sure something will be done to help the customer despite who was at fault. It is bad PR and will surely scare off others interested in a 3G offering. For example I was quite surprised to learn over the weekend that despite having a wifi ADSL connection my folks refuse to use services like skype on their smarphones just in case they don't spot that the wifi was turned off or they forgot to disable mobile data.

It is a severely limiting method of operating and scares off many potential customers imo.

It definitely wasn't a single session. Modem was configured to reboot every 24hrs and the DVR too was set to reboot every 24 hours, worst case, a session lasted for 24 hours. I only have seen the itemised billing which shows one cumulative figure for the 24 hour period and an amount (Ranging from R2k - R5k per day)
