Vodacom expanding eSIM support next week

This is great, my dad is on Vodacom contract, data is pricey, now I can switch Vodacom to eSim and then get him a physical MTN sim card, to have cheap prepaid Afrihost data. You can now essentially have a dual sim.

So stupid that you have to physically go into a store for a prepaid esim. Also, how can you not "have stock" of something that is a virtual digital thing?

I'm thinking it has an identification number that you can't just make up and has to be provisioned first.

Can you share how you do this? iPhone automatically switches one eSim off when you activate another. Are you sure you don't have a physical MTN sim? That works for sure.

Yeah this doesn't work... Yet? It still falls under their OneNumber nonsense. If physical SIM is not in the tray then you will not receive SMS.

iPhone 13 and later allows you to have 2 eSIMs active. Anything before the 13 has to be one physical SIM and one eSIM (I.E. cannot be two eSIMs simultaneously on iPhone 12 or earlier)

I was thinking the same thing when I read that. How can you run out unless they only provisioning a certain number initially.

I haven't done a lot of reading on eSims, but how do you run out of them?

I have a 13 and never knew this, thanks for the heads up.

So I guess this was the test and implementation in advance of the iPhone 14 in the US which is dual eSim only. Which when you think about it, they never really added an eSim, but actually in reality just dropped a nano sim.

Just use normal Mobile Data screen in Settings. No issue to have two eSims active on recent trip to Netherlands. Nomad eSim no longer active so cannot share screen. My MTN sim is def eSim (went through pain to get it)
